Hello,
Looking for advice and general recommendations for establishing some small wildflower gardens in my yard. Specifically looking for advice on controlling invasive weeds (stilt grass, Johnson/Barnyard grass, etc.) so they don’t completely take over and crowed out the newly seeded wildflower areas.
The backyard was completely razed and re-landscaped this spring. The wildflower gardens are also new (seeded about 2 months ago). So this is the first year getting established. Used a Northeast “native blend” seed mix from American Meadows.
Is manual weeding the big stuff the best option? Ideally, I’d like these areas go get to a point of self sufficiency/zero maintenance, without the invasives taking over. Just not sure if that is realistic?
It’s also been a rough summer so far with very high heat, and little rain. However I have been watering as much as possible on a regular basis.
Located in Connecticut. Zone 6B.

This is also a great question to ask at r/meadowscaping. How deeply did you clear the ground before seeding in the meadow plants?
Lots of overlapping cardboard (remove any tape) and a chipdrop.
