I got this mower from Marketplace and I cut the grass yesterday and now it’s all yellow like this.
- Did I cut too much?
 - Is because some grass stayed there so now it’s yellow or all jumbled together like in the end?
 - Do I water too much? I installed in 2 weeks ago and was told to water twice a day
 - How do I remove the old grass that I cut and part of it stayed there? Blower hasn’t helped much.

Dull blades kill grass immediately, they dull? Might have cut it too short too, those are my 2 guesses.
Looks like you scalped it down to the thatch layer.
Check for grubs too
What height did you have the mower on?
What was your mower height?
What grass type do you have? Maybe add nitrogen and Water deep for 3 or 4 hours in the early morning and cut again the next day with the mower on its highest setting in this heat. Cutting too short if a cool-season grass is stressful. Make sure your blade is sharp too.
Good luck!
Installing turf this time of year is not the best idea. Scalping your newly planted turf during the hottest time of year is an even worse idea.
You will need to rake out the dead grass and seed…but wait until the fall.
Please don’t mow the lawn in sandles.
Looks like you cut way more than 1/3 of the grass’s height…
It’s gonna come back. Keep cutting it that low.
Probably cut too much off at once and now the grass is stressed as hell. Water it a lot and don’t mow for a while. Then next time you mow set the height as high up as you can. If it’s so high that it’s not actually cutting any grass, good, let it grow more til it does.
I’m definitely not an expert but it looks like you did what I did earlier this year, cut it down to low. I thought the lower the better so I have to cut it less. It messed up my yard pretty bad.
Mowing it after 2 weeks of installing sod is way too soon
My grass is sooooo long right now, gives me anxiety, but it’s alive and well (couple spots would call me a liar) 😄
Looks like it dried up and you cut way too much.
Too short. 🙁
Lawn sweeper will remove the grass, I have a tow behind. Grass likes water also
Installed 2 weeks ago I don’t think it should have been mowed yet
My guess is fungus. Everyone’s fighting it rn, and if you are watering 2 times a day for sure. But also, are you mowing at the highest setting?
You mowed way too soon for it being 2 weeks new and also too short. Don’t mow for a few more weeks and raise the mower height and you’ll be good
Dog gam you sure you used a mower? Lol
Milorganite it and water it down
Installed new grass at the end of July, cut grass extremely low, cut grass in sandals lol dude……
Cut way too low.
Let it grow. Water it to
If planted 2 weeks ago, you should water it twice a day. You also should not mow it until it’s rooted in, so mowing in 2 weeks might be a little early. Was it green and lush when it was laid down? I’m assuming it was sod i have seen people put down dead sod before then askl why
I think someone planted sod that had been sitting on a pallet for a week, then planted it and told you it was okay.
I had a very similar situation. Recently, we installed tall fescue sod and lawn grew really beautiful like blue green. First few time I mowed it grew beautifully. Then like a month ago, I mowed and after that it had yellow spots and in those areas, lawn didn’t grew much. I think I made few mistakes. I waited to mow too long. It was quite tall and I mowed to 3.5 inches (grass was like 8 inch tall). I think that might have stressed it. Secondly, lawn mower blades might be dull -> I checked and mower blades was dull. So I sharpend it. Next, it may be lacking nutrition or it can be fungus. So I put fertilizer -> Scotta green max and it helped. Then I added Scott’s diseaseX. I also reduced the watering a little bit. I can see what I did really helped. Lawn is back to blue green and yellow patches have reduced and growing back. I am not sure which helped. One other thing, don’t cut your lawn during really hot days
It’s grass
My mum did this to my grass, mow higher! Cutting short does not mean you mow less, it kills your lawn!
Don’t mow right before a heat wave.
Cut it way too low especially for the summer time
Water bro
You nuked it. How low did you set the mower? Mistakes happen, was it your first time?
Never cut shorter than 3” and never cut off more than 1/3 at any given mowing. 3” and higher is the perfect height for a healthy lawn. Also, you should usually wait a minimum of four weeks after installing sod before mowing. And yes, you’re supposed to water the heck out of new sod or a newly seeded lawn.
