I went to a work shop on apple trees at a local orchard. They said not to have mulch around the trees as it harbors bugs that will eat the roots… just have bare ground around the trees for about 8-12 in.
Its lookin so beautiful….š®šā¤
have you thought about doing a polyculture / guilds in the orchard? that method makes so much sense to me. and bonus production š
Misto n bug net hat??š®šā¤
I hope that tractor came with a backhoe. Makes that grave digging a little easier!
Luke, not only is it amazing to see you building the new farm from scratch, but the information and knowledge that you so kindly share is priceless. You are amazing. Thank you
Your spur removal and Iām letting branches grow at 18ā on my home apples.
That is a LOT of trees. I have been harvesting a bumper crop of peaches this year and I only have 3 trees and it is a lot!
Debbie here,,š©āš¾. Thanks MIgardner for sharing the pine cedar shavings as mulch,,,Iāve cut my watering way back, and no weed seeds in it. š. It goes on so easyā¦
We have a small orchard of 30 trees and just learned some things from you on what we should be doing. Thank you sooooo much!
Great video. Loved hearing and watching all you have to do. Thanks for sharing.
Oh, I wanted to let you know that the last few videos I have watched where you say we might be interested in watching this video and you point up, there is nothing there. I usually do go from one to the other, so I am very disappointed I have nothing to click on.
Down in Florida Iwe have elderberry growing by the sides of roads and train tracks all over the place. I have a few on my property but donāt need to plant more because I can forage from those places all I need
I like how you got distracted by snacking on the cherries š that's a mood
Started my hobby orchard 4yrs ago now with 30 strains of Dragon fruit. Also a few apple trees red delicious golden delicious & honey crisp also have a golden jubilee peach tree. But want to grow a few Rainer cherry trees. Is it possibly to start from a cherry pit ??
Love the hat.

Would love to see something on your spraying schedule.
Why not use multiple valves and just let your pipe manifold water your rows? Keep the same pump and pressure, just let a robotic watering assistant take care of the lines that drip. You won't need blue flags or any connectors once the system is assembled. Use solid poly or pex pipe between each drip line transition.
Fun from Ontario Canada ā¤ā¤ā¤
Just placed a seed order today and discovered 25 percent off, plus free shipping over $20. Thanks Luke!
Welcome to the wonderful world of native fruiting plants!!! I'm prepping to plant two cultivars of our North American Sambucus Nigra shrubs or trees (however you wish to describe them). Right now they are held in 3 gallon pots since they arrived earlier this year as bare-root plants. They have even decided to bloom! Beautiful! And the butterflies just love them. I stake them up just as you are doing, but with bamboo stakes. I wish that I had done their staking before the wind storm blew part of a silver maple into them. So, out into the heat and miserable humidity I must go to rescue the beautiful blossoms that will make my tea and make my pollenators very happy.
Luke, you are having fun with all these Big Boy Toys!!!
A farmer in hey dudes is awesome
Luke, What kind of wood mulch do you get or do you grind it from the trees yourself or do you purchase it in? Is it any specific kind? Is it aged? Once? A tree is ground like from the tree trimmers. Can you use that tree mulch right over in the beds like that or do you have to wait 6 months or longer? Thank you for your answers
Luke, I love this day in the life on your farm. I learned a lot just from watching you please do more of these. God bless you. I wish I live closer to you to be able to get some of those apples someday
Fun is relative. Now to prune my 2 cherries
Yeah, spotted the elderberry in bloom. Lucky you!
I used to work in an apple orchard 50 years ago. It was in Vermont! We grew some very old varieties, Northern spy, Rhode Island greenings, Macintosh, some I donāt remember but the trees were old.
On our small farm, We drill deep 2-inch holes through the clay to drain excess water in the areas that the tiles don't sufficiently drain.
Thanks for the great lesson. Itās time for me to get to work! šŖš»
Question how often do you water?
What kind of wood chips do you use around the trees?
EÄŗderberry!!!!!š
If you want to be free of gnats bugging you, wear a vanilla car freshener. I wear one every day on my farm and it works like a charm!
Haha finding your pruners out in the field is the most relatable thing. I swear Iām constantly looking for my pruners.
Luke, love your relaxed attitude. Youz da Manā¦.
For your drip line what kind of emitters and how far are they spaced? Or are you using soaker hose the length of the row
Very nice! You should invest in a landscape rake. It would definitely make the wood chip spreading process a lot easier
