MOUNT VERNON – The Mount Vernon Music and Arts Festival (MVMAF) welcomes the
return of the annual Flower Show, presented by the Knox County Garden Clubs.

The show is hosted by The Living Center, 201 N. Main St., on Aug. 8 to 10.

Chairwomen Jo Ann Graham and Audrey Spearman organized the show, which is open to all Knox County residents and members of Knox County Garden Clubs.

It is also open to nonresidents of Knox County. Nonresidents must make a reservation by calling 740-397-5156 by Saturday, Aug. 2. No reservations are necessary except for residents outside Knox County.

There is no entry charge for participants.

The theme of this year’s flower show is “Treasures from the Attic.” There are no experience requirements to enter. The show has two categories: artistic and horticulture.

The flower show committee reserves the right to combine, subdivide, or eliminate classes to ensure a uniform show.

The show will be open to the public on Friday from 5 to 8 pm, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Judging rules

Entries will be accepted from 8 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, at The Living Center.

Exhibitors must complete an entry tag that includes their name, address, and exhibitor number. Juniors must add their age in the upper right-hand corner.

Entry tags should be made out in advance before arriving at the flower show. Contact 740-397-5156 for entry tags or more information.

All judging will be conducted according to the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs (OAGC) Standard System.

Judging will be from 1 to 5 p.m. and is open to show participants only. The judges’ decisions are final.

First, second, and third-place winners will receive a ribbon and premiums. A Best of Show winner will be decided for each section and will receive a premium.

The judges will award a Best of Show for junior horticulture and artistic categories, as well as Living Center horticulture and artistic categories.

Those attending the flower show can vote on a People’s Choice winner.

Additionally, each participant will be entered into a drawing for one of ten $10 gift certificates donated by Forester’s Seeds of Quality.

The People’s Choice Award and raffle winners will be announced at 4 pm on Sunday. Prize premiums will also be distributed at that time.

Garden club workshops

Graham and Spearman will present two workshops to review the rules and expectations for contestants:

–Wednesday, July 9, 1 p.m. for those entering the artistic flower category

–Wednesday, July 30, 1 p.m. for those entering the horticulture category

The Living Center will host both workshops.
