My lawn continues to leak water throughout the day. The sprinklers go off at 6 am twice a week in the morning but the attached picture is at 8 pm. Is there a leak in my sprinkler system? Who should I call for help.

Looks like an irrigation leak. Contact your water company and see if you’ve got nonstop water pumping.

  2. What is it like in days the sprinklers don’t go on? The 3 days between, if it’s dry, then it isn’t a leak (before the main sprinkler valve anyway).

Ps. You also have some sedge or something.

What about days with no sprinklers on?

If it’s always like this then you 100% have either one or multiple of the following:

Main water line leaking someone between the meter and your home, bad news, it’s gonna cost you!

Main water line leaking between road and meter, it’s in the city but unlikely the issue.

Sewer line leaking – same variants as above in most cases.

Sprinkler or other irrigation line leaking

    Spigot left running for days

Call your municipal water company and they’ll come check who’s gonna end of paying. It’ll probably be you. In 30 years and roughly 8 leaks, only one has ever been on the city.

Good news though, they will help with the high water bill one time.

    Good luck.

  5. Irrigation system. Not sure … ask a local reputable landscaper. Neighborhood pages are also good to ask.

If this is a new home do you have home warranty? If so call them!

Track it down yourself if you can. I just had to dig up a pine tree root that broke the base of a sprinkler head off of the water line over time. It grew around it then pop. Root wins. Landlord sent a guy out to replace it the next day. Thank God for not having a slumlord. That’s definitely a slow leak in your yard tho. Could be worse but that’s big money. Good luck.

Turn off the valve that sends water to your sprinklers. If that stops it you have a sprinkler pipe leak. If not then you have bigger problems

If the sprinkler system has its own main shutoff, shut it off for a few days and see if it dries up. If yes, then call a sprinkler person. If you go away for a few days does it dry up? If yes and “no” to the sprinkler question, then it’s probably the sewer line. Confirm if it’s it also worse after parties where a lot of people are flushing. If “no”, and “no” to the sprinkler question, then it’s probably the main water line because that won’t change as there’s always pressure going to the house, whether your water is running or not.

If you have a sprinkler system leak.. it’s probably a solenoid valve that isn’t closing properly. Might have trash (debris) in it. It’s not an overly complex fix after you do a bit of research on it.

I actually have a very similar issue not caused by irrigation! I live at the bottom of a hill and after heavy rains all of the water flowing underground stops at my house and the road and then rises to the top and seeps out for days after. I had to have a sump installed under the house because water was collecting there as well. Not sure what your setup is like but could be similar.
