The design for Heroes Park is moving along thanks to Melton Design Group, the landscape artists for the 40-acre park on the corner of Grangeville Boulevard and the future 9th Avenue.
According to Parks and Community Services Director Brad Albert, the architectural group has completed nearly one third of the park’s design.
“The design of Heroes Park continues to move forward,” said Albert. “We are currently at 30% of the design. We are also conducting the required environmental impact review for the project.”
The most recent conceptual design includes a one-mile looped walking trail with a meadow and urban forest, a dog park, 16 pickleball courts, a skate park, a community garden, and a 3,000- to 4,000-person amphitheater.
This project is funded mostly in part by Prop 68, from which the City received $8.5 million, roughly half of which was used to purchase the property, leaving approximately $4.5 million from Prop 68 funds to use towards park construction.
The City has also received park impact fees of approximately $2 million and a Land and Water Conservation grant for $2 million to add to the parks’ funding sources.
While the design is only 30% complete, construction on the project is estimated to begin in the summer of 2026.
“As a reminder, Heroes Park is a large-scale capital project and will be phased,” said Albert. “A new sign has been placed on the property facing Grangeville Boulevard to signify the location of the park.”
