    Did you recently chop any old fronds? My ZZ was in bad shape so I put it out of its misery by chopping off all but 1 frond. A few weeks later 9 new fronds appeared. These things must respond well to pruning.

    Yes, it’s new growth on your zz. It darkens over time.
