For many of us, using a water hose is practically a daily activity during the warmer months. Whether we’re watering our garden or simply having some fun in the sun with a sprinkler set. And if you plan on using a water hose in the immediate future, there is a recall you should absolutely know about.
According to an announcement shared on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission website, Winston Products has recalled its HydroTech 5/8-inch Expandable Burst-Proof Hoses.

The recalled water hoses can burst, posing an impact hazard and a risk of temporarily impaired hearing. So far, there have been at least 222 reports of the hoses bursting, resulting in at least 29 injuries. In total, 3.6 million hoses were recalled by Winston Products.
If you think you’re in possession of one of the affected hoses, here’s what you should look for. The recalled HydroTech 5/8-inch Expandable Burst-Proof Hoses were manufactured on or before August 31, 2024. The hoses were sold in lengths of 25, 50, 60, 75, 100 and 200 feet in various colors.
“Date code markings are located on the end of the hose that attaches to the spigot, visible when the black rubber washer is removed. Hoses with no markings or a marking ending in -211, -212, -213, -214, -221, -222, -223, -224, -231, -232, -233, -234, -241, -242 or -243 are included in this recall. On some hose packages, the manufacture date is listed in the month-year format. For example, 0824 is August 2024 and is included in this recall,” the announcement stated.
If you are in possession of one of the recalled water hoses, you should immediately stop using it. For those who purchased the hose from Ace Hardware, Do It Best, Home Depot or Walmart, you can receive a full refund in-store. But if you purchased it at another retailer, you should contact Winston Products for a full refund.
