I hope you have a hose readily accessible back there because that turf is going to get hot af during the day. Do not walk on it bare foot

  2. Old-Kaleidoscope1874

get some Colourtree sun shades and mount them on poles out back over the grass.

*Voice Over: The rocks were, in fact, not pretty.

    Big upgrade, nice work.

  4. bmwreyeder

Believe it or not, drought tolerant desert plants exist.

  5. AssumptionMundane114

Yay, more microplastics.  Your grandchildren will certainly thank you.

I lived in El Paso for years. The only problem we had with the turf was it got really really hot so we always had to wear sandals and we had to warn people. But it was so much better than goathead thorn bushes. Your spot looks spectacular. Amazing job

  7. Turned your yard into an oven. Plants dude, plants, and shade.

Astroturf increases the heat around your house, which is why it’s generally not encouraged in hot climates. That and the plastic and rubber break down and contamination risk from animal pee and poop.

Best bet for heat and ease is usually natives or a combination of native and appropriate species. I made the mistake of astroturf once and will never again, it seemed like the easy option but my god it turned into a massive headache a few years later

  9. This feels desperate for a pergola or something covering more.

Send me a dm, seriously I Would make you a good landscaping plant list just to make you put a fucking tree 🌴 I don’t have anything against artificial turf but no trees or bushes? It makes me angry

  11. your_pet_is_average

Less landscaping and more land eradication I guess.

Love that people decide to put plastic all over their yards… you chose to live in a place that shouldn’t have grass. Live with that decision instead of putting plastics into our ecosystem

I just hope if you have a dog you don’t let Fido relive himself/herself on it. I read that’s the #1 way to destroy that material. Just a heads up. I won’t go into detail but it is pretty gross. Instead I will use emojis…💩🪰🪰🪰🪰🪰

  14. dsmemsirsn

Pretty in pictures; hellish in real middle sprig, and full summer.

  15. According_Jump6205

Must be hot in there with so much stone and petroleum carpet.

  16. Jesta914630114

I hope you got decent turf. Most turf leeches PFAS chemicals into the air and ground around it. There was a case study on a group of MLB baseball players with the same glioblastoma. They proved it was chemicals leeching from the turf.

  17. Dot_Hot99Dog

The problem with the clean/low maintenance astroturf look is that when all of your neighbors do the same, all the yards become so depressingly…lifeless.

  18. QuitProfessional5437

Ah I can smell the hot ass turf from here

  19. Youre idea of “pretty” and mine are a little different.
I think the gray gravel in the renovated picture would have looked much better since there was no contrast between the house and yard. Almost everything in the yard was the same color even the fence

  20. PissBloodCumShart

If you want grass, move to the other 3/4 of the country

  21. localpotato_232

Kill the lawn and put in some desert native shrubs and flowers

  22. HateItAll42069

    Wants lawn.

    Lives in the desert.

    Facepalm.

  23. photo_synthesizer

Careful, that artifical turf gets so dang hot!

  24. dagobert-dogburglar

I can feel how scalding hot that turf is gonna be

  25. rayeranhi

You should plant some Palo Verde trees or any kind of shade tree.
That plastic lawn’s sad, why more microplastic? 🙁

“In Michigan, USA, a 2008 study found harmful chemicals, including arsenic, chromium and lead, were present in practically every sample of artificial grass surface they tested.”

  26. Am I the only one wondering where the door to enter the backyard is? Did I miss it in the photos? There’s no way you have to walk from the front of the house to get there, right…?

  27. Traditional-Oven4092

As someone who has regular grass I feel so sad for you to have fake grass

  28. buttmunch3

just what a desert climate needs, pavement 😍

  29. 4leafplover

I find it odd the fences seem to be about 4’ tall

  30. BekaRenee

Everyone is itching to pave and carpet over every inch of their property in EP

  31. classicwobbegong

Replace the rock with native plants. Whatever grows in your area will probably be fine. If it’s tends to be more water logged take that into account but given it’s a desert climate, you’re more than likely fine. If you have to, keep the turn but I’d even recommend replacing that with a native ground cover or grass too. Those will ultimately make the back yard feel better/more usable. And if you HAVE to have turf, take a look at clover. Though I have little experience with clover in desert climates.

  32. Gmarlon123

Wow just wow- spent all that money to make it uglier!!

  33. All those stone walls are going to hold the heat in waaaay into the night. You might want to consider some small to mid size trees like a palo verde to with that.
