What is this that is growing between all my plants, up my siding, and through my lawn and how do I get rid of it? It’s definitely woody. I’ve done round up, waited for it to start turning brown, then dug out, and it keeps coming back. I’m in the NW Suburbs of Chicago, IL.

Campsis radicans – Trumpet Vine. Keep spraying every new shoot you see with Triclopyr amine (any “brush killer” herbicide at a big box store will likely be triclopyr). It won’t kill grasses but it will kill other broad leaf plants though.

Unfortunately if there is a mother plant around you will never get rid of it until the mother plant is properly killed by hack and squirt method with full strength 41% glyphosate – DO NOT JUST CUT THE MOTHER PLANT DOWN.

I got rid of mine after 5 years and so can you.

It’s native to USA but it is aggressive in certain parts of the USA, almost as aggressive as Chinese Wisteria (which I am still battling after 8 years).
