PULLMAN, Wash. – The City of Pullman is moving forward with a new memory garden at Lawson Garden on Pioneer Hill.

Thanks to a $900,000 dollar grant from Elinor McCloskey, the Pullman memory garden is poised to become one of only five public memory gardens in the U.S.

During a recent city council meeting, council members and community attendees discussed the garden’s potential impact on individuals with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

They touted the memory garden’s sensory engagement with features such as aromatic plants and calming water elements.

Council members also highlighted the emotional benefits, stating the garden will serve as a therapeutic space.

Ongoing maintenance was a topic of concern, with discussions on funding options like an endowment or forming a “Friends of the Garden” group for community involvement.
