In June 2023 I was going through a really shitty time so on my birthday I made this giant bug hotel with my partner at my mums allotment. I absolutely loved making this and it’s still going strong. I no longer live in that city anymore so I don’t really get to go and see it anymore but my mum sends me photos every now and then. There’s quite a lot of snooty people at this allotment site who feel like they’re better than everyone else, and actively hate wildlife by putting toxic pellets, poisons and unsafe netting structures around, trapping wildlife. A few people made snooty comments about this being a rats nest but I don’t care. I’d be happy for any animal to feel at home on this plot of land. They have the right to use it just as much as we do, if not more.

The people criticising are pretty bloody stupid and need to educate themselves on basic ecology in modern terms FFS. 🤦🏻♀️
Please build an even bigger one to spite them.
I expect the immediate space has a better balance of insects that solve in-balances by themselves.
Remind the dullards that the UK is one of the most nature depleted countries on the planet and they should be doing more to improve things as supposed lovers of horticulture.
I hate to say it but feel like it’s likely an older demographic saying these things.. appreciate it’s not all older people but many are reluctant to stay up to date.
