Dahlias bloom at the UC Santa Cruz Farm as camper Cecilia DeBartolo and garden educator Julia Poole water the garden during Life Lab’s Wildlands to Watering Cans Summer Camp this week. The camp, which has been a summer option for local kids for many years, offers a diverse group of campers and staff the opportunity to “explore the outdoors, plant seeds, make farm-fresh snacks, sing songs, and grow side by side.” Life Lab is a national leader in garden-based learning. At the Garden Classroom educational center in Santa Cruz, Life Lab engages learners with experiential programs such as field trips, summer camps, internships and educator workshops.
