WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A Garden City man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for killing a man at a party in 2024.
This week, the Finney County Attorney’s Office shared that 21-year-old Fernando Sandoval was convicted on one count of involuntary manslaughter and one count of aggravated battery for his role in a stabbing last August that left one dead and two others critically hurt.
Police learned that Sandoval had stabbed three people after a fight broken out at a party.
The stabbing took place in the 2600 block of Chainey Street. All three victims were taken to the hospital at the time. 20-year-old Xavier Castaneda later died from his injuries.
Sandoval and another person, 21-year-old Ximena Sanchez-Espinoza, fled the scene before officers arrived, but were later found 70 miles away in Hugoton.
Sandoval will serve 144 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections and will be under post-release supervision for two years. He’ll also be required to register as a violent offender for 15 years once released.
