We have this small section of grass (it’s now mostly weeds) that is neglected because it’s on the far side of our driveway. As you can see our neighbor has pristine landscaping on her side but has been respectful to not spray on our side. We recently had to dig up part of the area and now I want to re-do it. Any ideas of what I could do here that would not be grass, respectful of her area and taste? Something that also wouldn’t spread into her area.

What growing zone do you live in?
Personally, this seems like a good place for a little pocket meadow. Prairie Moon Nursery has some good guides. Use plants native to your area.
But if I were you, before I do anything, I would simply talk to your neighbor who clearly cares very much about their garden. Talk to them about how you want to do more with that space, and appreciate their clear expertise, and what your ideas are. This could be a great opportunity c
For collaboration.
Micro clover? I would probably ask your neighbor what they wouldn’t mind having next to their yard? Gravel covering wouldn’t be awful
Sorry I didn’t post this earlier- we’re in Portland Oregon
Big rocks with some ferns or Oregon grape in a few gaps would look nice and keep things low maint
Tear it all out and either pave it or turn it into drivable rock. Seriously. Make it a usable area. Anything you try to grow near the driveway will get nuked. Save your efforts for a different space
A patch of cosmos or hostas.
Blue berry bushes make a nice hedge. Or you could put a trellis in there and plant table grapes. Go to One Green World (it’s in Portland) and get some idea from the staff there. They will have great ideas too.
