The event was a collaboration by Beith Community Food Garden at the community centre, together with Orr Park Neighbourhood Watch Garden.

The idea was to put Beith on the horticultural map, boost local civic pride and encourage others to enjoy the new social spaces and potentially volunteer to help.

Opening the event, Carrick Crawford, garden designer and project leader of the Beith Community Food Garden initiative, said: “It’s a truly special day as we celebrate the culmination of a remarkable community effort.

“This garden represents more than just beautiful plants and sculptures; it embodies the spirit of collaboration, dedication, and a shared vision for a more vibrant and inclusive community space.

“What was once an underutilised area has been transformed into a haven for the senses, a place where people of all ages and abilities can connect with nature and with each other.

“This incredible transformation wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering commitment of our volunteer garden design team. Their passion and expertise have shaped every aspect of this garden.”

Carrick added: “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to this project.

“To the volunteers, Arran CVS sponsors, Beith Community Association and community members who generously gave their time and support, donations of plants and materials – thank you. Your collective efforts have created something truly special for Beith.”

Carrick said after the event: “Big thanks to the set-up team of Charlie and Janice, Andrew and Margaret. The home baking went down a treat with a number of requests for recipes.

“Thanks to James and his community centre volunteers for helping provide tables, cups and tea-making facilities.

“Thanks also to Rose-Ann Cunninghame and the Scottish Gardens team for a great day’s event and to Norrie and Rose Brown.”
