See this garden? Nice and open. Lots of sky. But she wanted something cozy like this or this or this. Now, it’s impossible to create a cozy garden in an open path like this or easy. Here’s what I’m going to do. So, I’m going to create a central reflecting pool and surround it with a cute pathway as well as a deck. Then, I’ll surround the pool with some benches and plants and create a secret path to another part of the garden. This gives a sense of focus towards the pool as well as exploration creating mystery. Here’s how it looks like. So, even though I’m not building walls or using a million tall trees to surround my garden, it still gives a sensation of closeness and coziness. This is because coziness is created by narrowing your senses and reducing the sensory overload. So, when our eyes are focused towards the trickle of the fountain and the very private pool, we feel cozy even though the garden is still wide open. Here’s the before and the after.

  1. This is incredible!!! I have a huge back yard and have been wracking my brain on how to make it more cozy and have better flow. More outside spaces!!

  2. I’m certain the sound of the fountain will also help create a calming atmosphere with the different senses, there is something magical with the sound of water.

  3. These videos are incredible for learning about the art of feng shui,
but I don’t see a lot of chatter about the art (and struggle!) of quick and easy to read perspective drawings!
It’s super educational for the artists watching, including me! 😀
seeing the drawing process in this (albeit sped up) real-time video is super helpful for understanding these scenes being drawn in these sometimes very dramatic, almost fish-eye perspectives.
Which makes it easy to use these pieces as references for our own artwork
Just wanted to give another shout out to Mr Dearmoderns channel for being so educational (and filled with talent!) overall :)))

  4. Your artistry is beyond measure, you are sooooo talented!! Congrats on your dedication and hard work, fulfilling peoples' dream spaces!!

  5. Yes! The best way to add coziness to a space is to block off your vision to the rest of it and control the views!

As an amateur gardener: more plants is usually the right answer, but it's not the answer for everyone

  6. Why are people talking about landscaping and interior design in the comments? I'm confused

  7. Mr. Tan, do you play Animal Crossing? Because I bet you'd make some of the FINEST Islands and interiors on that game 🤩

  8. From my point of view, she got an expensive garden but it didn't look expensive enough.
That lesson on "coziness" though… I live for this.

  9. OMG you're doing landscapes!! Our garden is a nightmare and I'm so stuck on it! We purchased the plot of land bordering our garden but now it's just.. two separate gardens and I can't figure out a way to combine them due to unfortunate placements of trees and garages and aaaaargh!

  10. I feel like plants or short trees behind the palms, and a sunken in rear pool would increase the cozy factor too

  11. Would love an ai generated render of your yard design. I have this same problem with a big open plain yard
