It’s Friday, July 25, 2025. On any normal Friday at the Shore, the traffic alone is enough to make you feel irritable and anxious. But on this Friday, temperatures outside feel well above the century mark and a severe thunderstorm watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for every county in New Jersey but Cape May until 9 p.m.

Be safe out there.

Brick Township Police are asking motorists to avoid the area of Burrsville Road near the Garden State Parkway exit there, due to a motor vehicle crash. This is Exit 91 (northbound) on the Parkway.

Ongoing construction work on Route 9 in northern Ocean County started at 9 p.m. and will result in major detours through the overnight hours.

Work is taking place in both directions from James Street to Route 88 in Lakewood. All lanes are closed and traffic is being detoured until 5 a.m. Saturday.

Elsewhere on Route 9, work is taking place just north of Indian Head Road to Church Road in Toms River. All lanes are closed and traffic there is also being detoured until 5 a.m. Saturday.

At 9:09 p.m., there is a report of vehicle fire in the southbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway in the area of Exit 89A (Route 70 East) in Lakewood. All lanes remain open.

Horicon Avenue and Beckerville Road in Manchester have reopened to motor vehicle traffic, according to township police.

From Eatontown to Keyport, there is construction Friday night on Route 35 (in both directions) from about Route 36 in Eatontown to Broadway in Keyport. All lanes are open northbound; southbound, the right lane ― there are two lanes in total ― is closed until 10 a.m. Saturday.

As of 8:12 p.m., there is a crash and a vehicle off the roadway in the northbound express lanes of the Garden State Parkway north of Exit 117 (Route 36) in Aberdeen.

At 7:50 p.m. Friday, all lanes on Route 70 in Manchester have reopened to traffic, according to township police.

All lanes on Route 70 in Manchester on Friday night remain closed due to a downed tree.

There are multiple reports of wires blocking roadways in Manchester. Police are advising the public to avoid the area between Route 70 and Woodview Drive. Police are also asking the public to avoid the area between Horicon Avenue and Beckerville Road due to wires being down there.

From the Raritan Toll Plaza to Exit 4 (Route 47) in Middle Township, the trip is taking about two hours.

From the Raritan Toll Plaza to Exit 38 (Atlantic City Expressway) in Pleasantville, the trip is taking about one hour and 30 minutes.

From the Raritan Toll Plaza to Exit 63 (Route 72) in Stafford, the trip is taking about one hour and five minutes.

From the Raritan Toll Plaza to Exit 98 (Route 138) in Wall, the trip is taking about half an hour.

As of 5:41 p.m., Route 35 North in Mantoloking had partially reopened after being closed due to downed wires. The incident took place at Herbert Street. At the present time, the right lane ― one of two lanes ― and the right shoulder remained closed.

Southbound delays on the Garden State Parkway have resulted in a traffic backup of about six miles from about Exit 89C (Lakewood/Airport Road) in Lakewood to Exit 83 (Route 9) in Toms River.

There is a report of a downed tree on Route 70 that has shut down traffic in both directions in the area of Routes 539 and 530 in Manchester. Avoid the area, if possible.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Monmouth County until 6:15 p.m. Friday. The Garden State Parkway from Holmdel to Wall, as well as all other state and local highways in Monmouth County are in the path of this potential storm.

The storm is capable of producing wind gusts of 60 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly.

There is a crash with injuries on Route 18 southbound at Exit 15 (Wayside Road) in Tinton Falls. The left lane ― of two lanes ― is closed.

Route 70 is closed between Beckerville Road and Route 539 due to a brush fire. This is a major artery that connects the Philadelphia suburbs with the northern Shore in Ocean County.

Multiple traffic lights are also out along Route 530 in Manchester.

Northbound traffic on Route 36 in Sea Bright is backed up from about Center Street to Rumson Road. Expect heavy delays.

As of 4:36 p.m., there are heavy delays reported on Route 70 East in Manchester.

As of 4:18 p.m., there are downed power lines on Route 35 in the area of Herbert Street in Mantoloking. All lanes are closed. The cause of the downed wires was not immediately available.

Utility repairs on Maple Avenue in Plumsted, near the local Wawa, are underway. The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office asks motorists to avoid the area.

Delays are reported on Route 35 southbound in Mantoloking, and Route 36 at Sandy Hook and in Sea Bright.

Ongoing road construction work is expected to be cleared out at about 5 p.m. Friday.

As of 4:01 p.m., there is heavy traffic reported on Route 70 westbound in the area of Jack Martin Boulevard in Brick.

That crash in the eastbound lanes of Route 37 West near Hospital Drive in Toms River has resulted in injuries. The right lane and shoulder remained closed.

As of 3:51 p.m., there are delays and pockets of heavy volume on the Garden State Parkway southbound from about Exit 91B-A (Chambers Bridge Road) in Brick to Exit 83 (Route 9) in Toms River. Traffic is backed up for 11 miles.

There are delays in the southbound local and express lanes of the Garden State Parkway in the area of Exit 109 (Newman Springs Road) in Middletown. Expect to find traffic backed up for at least two miles.

At 3:43 p.m., there is a motor vehicle crash with injuries on Route 37 East, west of Hospital Drive in Toms River. The right lane and shoulder are closed.
