My mum’s variegated Monstera has these weird tiny black specks that look like little sticks on the leaves. They’re like thin black lines. They’re a bit hard to wipe off since they’re really dry and stuck to the leaf, but I can scrape them off with a bit more pressure.
They’re placed outdoor and get a lot of sun. I think the plants used to be watered more often but I think these plants have been neglected for a while. I think they have use house plant potting mix and all the pots have holes on the bottom.
Any idea what this could be? Pics attached. thanks!

Holy infestation. This looks like some kind of larvae (fungus gnats?) or waste/poop from thrips.

Maybe black thread scale?
It looks like the black jack weed??? Maybe wind caught them all over your plant, it rained and they got stuck on there? That’s my best guess
Oh nooo
I believe it’s black thread scale.
I own a small nursery and our state does yearly inspections, and establishes good relationships between the inspectors and growers. We can send in samples to the lab any time we want.
That said: when I had a sample sent in from a monstera that looked like that it was in fact Ischnaspis longirostris. Black thread scale.
It was a remove infected vegetation, treat, and monitor. No issues since with that course of action. It seemed to be very slow spreading in our situation
