This rubber tree has been doing spectacularly this summer since it has been hot, humid, and rainy. My mom bought this rubber tree for my dad in winter of 1993 at a Dominick's grocery store and walked it home in the snow. It's one of the oldest houseplants my parents have. My dad is very houseplant green thumbed and has over 30 houseplants (including 6 orchids) and basically all of them are absolutely stunning. Many of their houseplants have been with them for 20+ years.

He says he waters this plant frequently, gives it some kind of fertilizer (the same one he gives his orchids apparently) and leaves it outside on the patio in partial shade all summer long. It pretty much always gets extra gigantic in the summer outside and he prunes it back in the fall to fit it back through the house door. Happy to interrogate dad on houseplant care for anyone interested.

Beautiful! How does your dad prep them to bring them back inside? I always worry about bringing bugs or the drastic change in lighting.

  2. Wait….it’s safe to put them outside in the summer?

  3. Fantastic! On a different topic, how do they keep them hostas in such an intact state? Mines are always got eaten by the slugs 😭
