Whew…Day #1, what have we gotten ourselves into? From the hot sun, rocks and slate that the builders landscaped over, this episode was a doozy. Check out how we conquered the first day of this project.@thegreensexperience

all right hello tired we’re very tired so you want to start okay I’ll start [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] hello everyone so what you’re looking at here is the front of our home this is the front yard so this is the area in which we have decided to tackle um in regards to our first project for 2025 so what you’re looking at is builder grade front yard um what the builder did was just pretty much or I guess the landscaper um that worked with the builder what they did was just pretty much with no barrier just poured um the bark yeah the bark it’s not mulch it’s bark but poured bark and so one of the reasons why we decided to tackle this project is because it could get pretty windy in our area and we are just tired of sweeping up um bark that is blown across our front yard and also to add to that point the bark blows into the grass and then as you can see there’s a little ridge line there where the bark is no longer even covering the ground dirt and there’s no grass there so it just becomes eyesore over time so we decided to take matters into our own hands and do a DIY so here we are fully underway the kids got into the motion of helping us out a little bit so we’re getting that bark and some of the um loose dirt gravel rocks that’s on the top surface out of the way um I decided to try to rake it back on the plastic and that’s why I’m telling them like we’re going to keep it on the plastic so we don’t have to fight with getting it out of the grass and here’s me um trying to get an idea of how we’re going to line this wall up where we’re going to place the um the border on this far left side and yeah so we’re just mapping it out and still have some cleaning out to do kind of yes so right here you see continuing to try to clean up a lot of the bark um and some of the rock that we discovered when we were cleaning out um the front yard a lot of rock a lot of slate um that we didn’t anticipate but hey this is what we’re tacking as you can imagine it was pretty hot and then you see me here so what I was trying to do was we decided to um I guess what with the trees we were So she was trying to knock it down a little bit cuz the mound was pretty high yes the mound was pretty high due to rocks as well as um slate that had to break through and just tried to flatten out the area a little bit around the trees so that’s what you see me doing and then we laid the line with the um black mulch around it just to give it a little upgrade this is our kids this is their version of help so we appreciate when they come out and help and um so we wanted to kind of get everybody in on the action make it a a family day trying to clear this out it’s just more of um it just shows you the scope of um work that it took to get all of that builder grade um bark out of the way and later I will use some of this to back fill um but that’s why we’re putting it in bags but it’s still in the way right now so we got to clear it out and we don’t want it spreading all over the uh the grass area it just makes it a mess so to speak yes [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so Moving along right here we’re just dealing with this um putting the mulch down for the tree and I think on this clip we’re also going to add Did we do the seed right here i don’t know if we did the seed after okay so yeah right now we’re just kind of laying the plastic or I guess What did you use oh no that’s like a perforated um that’s a perforated lawn material that they have i use perforated so the roots could still breathe um cuz we raked it back quite a bit right there and um this is just us or me putting the mulch down and smoothing it out i think A is going to come behind and kind of yeah smooth it out a little bit and so this is part of the project where we kind of just use a simple idea to kind of make it look a little bit different or you want to Yes so what we wanted to do was as you can imagine after um some time of sitting in the sun the mulch bark it turns it gets you know the sun turns to color so um we wanted to replace what we had with some new um mulch black because the trim of our home is black so we wanted to match that and so the main thing was like I said the mound just kind of bothered me a little bit i felt like it was a little high so just wanted to lower it smooth out the area um just give it like a fresh look right now we’re just at the point to where um there’s a little just filming of the progress we’re kind of deciding how much further we’re going to go doing some final finishing um touches on this particular tree here filling in some of the gaps and kind of moving through it’s kind of hot so on this particular day it was hot and um by now we’re kind of kind of worn down by the sun and but we made a lot of progress explain to the viewers how you feel right now this is why you pay people to do stuff like this you tired yes here you go thank you so what we did here is we got over here raked all this back exposed the water lines which we’re probably going to keep most of those in there in case we want to do something different in the future but it’s going to be covered up with um mesh material and mulch going to make it run a little bit neater and we did that plant that flower that tree bed so a lot of work some extra stuff that just aesthetically was added to the whole project so yeah so ideally we want to have it as clean as possible so that it’s easy to work and just lay everything down um it was actually a lot of work working on the tree mound simply because clearly the builders just um planted the trees on top of rocks yeah so it was literally like large piles of rocks on top of each other which is why our mound so the trees were just planted on top of rocks so it took a lot of digging just to kind of dig those rocks out um so that we can just try to flatten the mound so what we’re going to do is lay some Bermuda grass that’s what we have here so we’re going to lay some Bermuda grass around the mound but today we were able to get that cleaned out a lot of the rocks out which was good so we’re starting with a clean slate yep um I think the we think I should say the trees are pretty healthy um so put a little bit of water down to help them out and and we’ll spread some seed in some of the lighter areas outside of the um the side that we lay down just to make sure it fills in nice and now we got this area to So now we have to tackle this and I will say this is a lot of work i am typically one to hire someone to do it versus you ain’t getting my money i ain’t paying the five yes he is definitely why pay somebody when we could do it ourselves so I thought I would take one for the team this time around but clearly this is a lot of work so you ain’t taking one for the team this was your idea i mean it was I will admit this was my idea i wanted to really get the um front tackled um before the summer heat hits us this Texas heat so um and it’s pretty hot today it’s definitely in the 80s um so this was pretty draining neck back arms everything hurts but um I’m pretty pleased on our progress of day one day one so stay tuned to watch and see how we transform our front yard into I would call it a modern contemporary look okay and I’m also you know I see the vision so I’m willing to um to make it a reality i can see how it’ll it’ll look nice um we’ve looked at several other videos and seen some of the things that was out there and we’re kind of doing it kind of the same but putting our little I guess touch on it as far as the quality in which we choose to um put the project together so
