Green-fingered Uttlesford residents impressed in the district council’s gardening competition for tenants and leaseholders.

Entries were in three categories: Best Garden, Best Hanging Basket and Best Communal Garden.

The winner of the Best Garden category, Carol Rosa, was commended for her remarkable transformation. Starting with a blank canvas just six years ago, Carol has cultivated a stunning garden in High Easter.

Alan Hasler House in Great Dunmow triumphed in the Best Hanging Basket class, and the Best Communal Garden title went to Reynolds Court in Newport.

The competition was judged by Mark Felton, the council’s grounds maintenance supervisor, who praised the creativity and dedication shown by all entrants.

He said: “It was a pleasure to judge the competition, and it is clear a lot of love and hard work has gone into these gardens. Choosing the winners wasn’t easy, but each one stood out for their originality, care and impact.”

The winners were presented with garden centre vouchers and certificates by the council’s Residents for Uttlesford leader, Cllr Petrina Lees.

The Best Communal Garden was awarded a £150 voucher, while other winners received individual prizes.

Cllr Lees said: “It was a pleasure to present the awards – this competition is a wonderful way to celebrate the pride our residents take in their homes and communities.

“Gardens bring happiness, improve wellbeing and help create vibrant neighbourhoods. I’m proud of everyone who took part.”
