GCA North Awards 2025
A much-loved garden centre in Preston has won a number of awards including one that proclaims it the best in the north.
Barton Grange Garden Centre, at Garstang Road in Brock, won the award for Destination Garden Centre of the Year at the Garden Centre Association (GCA) North Region Awards for the second year running.
The awards cover the regions of the North West, Northern Ireland, Scotland and North East.

They also won the Plantaria Prize for Outstanding Outdoor Plant Area Displays, the GIMA Award for Best Garden Products Retailer, the Indoor Lifestyle Award for Best Indoor Lifestyle Retailer and Best Food Hall or Farm Shop.
Russell Winteridge, general manager at Barton Grange, said: “Wow, what an incredible achievement! We’re so proud to have won so many awards and be crowned the best garden centre in the North.
“It’s thanks to the passion, dedication and hard work of our amazing team that makes our garden centre such a winner. This is a real honour and we look forward to the national finals!”
Peter Burks, CEO of the GCA, said: “Our North Area Awards Meeting was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who joined us for the event.
“It was brilliant to see so many members and their teams listening so keenly to what our Inspector Alyson Haywood had to say and taking on board her feedback.”
The accolades come around one month after it was confirmed the garden centre was set for a sale to national group Blue Diamond.
The Topping family stated that ‘after careful consideration’ they have entered talks with Blue Diamond over the sale of the garden centre and nursery. The history of the Topping family and the Barton site dates back to the 1950s.
The site includes the Marina and The Flower Bowl leisure complex which would not form part of any deal.
