So, I’m terrible at plant care. Which is probably why the cacti that was in here died. (Was closed/had a lid kinda thing that’s like the same size of the bottom bit here)

Pulled it out, and I’ve decided I want to try to make my own replacement.

Is it best to take it all out, dirt and all and start again from the complete beginning, or is it somewhat salvageable? I definitely want to get rid of the red dirt and replace it with more of that sand to make more of a beach theme (the blue bit is resin which is making me wonder how hard that would be to remove etc)

Not sure there’s anything left in there that would return to life, although moss sometimes appears to do so. I think what you have is fully deceased. You might scrape some live moss off of something outside and put that in there. Maybe add some creeping fig to the wood.

Then, it needs water in the very bottom and a spritz on top, and to stay wet. So if the seam there is letting water out, keep adding it back, I guess.

I wouldn’t put a cactus in there because in my experience, they don’t like to stay wet all over.

I’m not sure what substances are in there. It looks like epoxy resin or something? Not sure if living things like that. I would think not but could be wrong.

Last keep it somewhere with dappled light, never direct sunlight. Maybe under a lamp. And keep it cool. Moss wants cool, wet and still.
