Need advice! What do I do with this space? It was a pond that we filled in for safety. Want something simple but cute – not too obstructive to the windows

A fairy garden! Low growing perennials, cute rocks, cool looking sticks you find, and one of those little fairy/gnome/mouse/etc dioramas. You could make it so cute with views from the yard and the window

Looks to me like it is still gonna be a pond when it rains .

The window is what the problem is ! Never should have been placed so low !

A creeping thyme or phlox would look good there! Maybe with a fairy garden!

How deep was the pond that it needed to be filled in for safety? Guessing you have small kids?

Paving in natural stone and a mini pot garden.

I’d get the thinner Holland pavers and make a mini patio with some potted plants, maybe a small chair and table, it’s hard to say with scale
I honestly wouldn’t bother with all the stone and sand base layers for something this small, I did a mini walk way with them directly on the dirt and it’s been fine for over 6 years, I just leveled the ground out and tamped it real good.

When you say filled do you mean ‘removed the liner and then back filled with a mix of materials’ or do you mean ‘threw a load of dirt on it’

I think the priority is making sure it’s graded away from the house and stairwell.
It doesn’t need to be a design feature.

Need some round rocks, I’d go with medium one large. Situate them from the windows perspective. Also level the ground. Shade plants.

Did you remove the pond retention material or add drainage holes? Otherwise, water will fill the old container, and this will become a holding pond of mud.

Dig it back out and make it a pond again. Add fish. Replace the window with one of those garden box windows that sticks out, then get a cat. Hours of fun.

Nothing.
Properly grade it away from the foundation, and leave it clear for window light / emergency egress.

I would fill it with decorative rock and maybe some annuals.

If you don’t want window obstruction I would plant a pretty ground cover plant here.

I’d look for some low perennials that take the light you get there. Border plants with something if interest in the center

Egress, so nothing that obstructs it.

You need to redo the area so that the water naturally goes away from the house, because water destroys houses. Right now it looks like all the water is going straight into the area where the old pond was.
Once drainage is figured out, plant some low growing perennials. Visit a local nursery and ask them what would be good to plant based on how much sun the area gets.

Make it a bird bath! You will need lining for that and rocks and such, but it will keep an open view from the window. You can place some small plants around it and you’re done!

If that window opens, it might be nice to do something fragrant and low growing. A creepting thyme would be pretty.

How about a pond?
craigrpeters
As others mentioned priority 1 is grading away from the foundation.
Priority 2 is leaving the window unobstructed. However I think you can plant ground cover and small non-woody perennials there safely. Hard to recommend specifics without knowing where you are, how much light that area gets etc.

Put in a very small decorative fountain, and surround with ferns, hostas, etc…

I thought of succulents like chick and hens. Low maintenance and they will keep multiplying.

I’d turn it into a peaceful little diorama. What a cool thing to look out at every time you’re at that window
RightyTightey
This looks like it could be an egress window. If so, I would make a small brick ‘patio’ in that space.
