Due to concerns from one of you, I planted the stem root in soil. It grew a bit in less than 24 hours.

I believe it is a root from a Poplar we cut down a decade ago that was somehow still alive underground.

Also the little dots in the aquarium are Daphnia, the population is ~5 years old.
