[Music] Hi everyone. Welcome back to Boom and Nest. So today we’re going to be doing a quick garden tour. I didn’t get a chance to do one. I did one in the beginning of uh June. I wanted to do one at the end of June. Um so it’s the beginning of July. We’ll do one at the end of July. Also, in this video, we’re gonna be doing a tour of our front garden. This is just so I can have some record of the garden. Of the garden. Yeah, because next year I have a like so many ideas of what I want to do. And I’m I And she don’t know what to choose. Exact. I didn’t know what to choose. I just have a lot of I I have a lot of ideas of what I want to do. So, I want to have a record of how it looked previous. So once I get it done next spring, I have a record to look back on. Anyways, let’s get into the quick quick quick garden tour. Cucumber beetles. Oh, the cucumber beetles. Is that what you’re saying? Yeah, we have to go check see if the cucumbers um this might be a little bit more in-depth than normal. We’ll see. Let’s get started. Walking into the garden, we have our four sunflowers anchoring the garden bed. We talked about them before. They finally opened up. They’re looking really good. As you can see, the y the bottom the these are turning yellow and I’m assuming that is deficiency. So, I am going to feed them. I did put some compost at the top of them. I’m going to feed them again with some fertilizer and hopefully that should help. So, the first garden bed towards the right uh we I believe did it together. The corn has uh the corn has germinated. It also has grown a lot. Um it’s crazy because it hasn’t cast a shadow on the snapdragon. So, um that’s really good. It’s Snapdragons have blossoming. They’re looking gorgeous. There are some that have not. Yeah. So, there are some that have not opened up yet. They’re still very They’re still closed and very small, but a good amount of them have opened up. and I have already started bringing them in and harvesting them for bouquets. So, I’m excited about that. Off of this side here, we have the the grape. The grape has grown crazily, but I don’t know if you guys can notice the holes. So, we had a Japanese beetle on this plant. I caught it relatively late, but I still caught it and put it into soapy water. So, it is gone. And I’m continuously checking them daily to make sure that there are nothing else. There is nothing else on it because of the cucumber beetles. You guys know that I was struggling with those. So because of that, I am out here for the Japanese beetle as well. Something I’m struggling when it comes to the grape is that it is vining out heavily. So it’s going across. I don’t know if you can see even onto the corn. So I don’t know if I should be cutting these back. I’ve been training them like taking the extra branches and training them up the trellis as much as I possibly can so it doesn’t continue attaching itself to the snapdragons or the corn. But the problem with that, I’m there’s nothing there’s no problem with that. I’m afraid that if I cut it, it’s just going to branch out even more. So, I’m not I haven’t cut it as of yet. If you have advice, let me know. on the other side. So, the next garden bed beside it, we have the peppers, we have peas, carrots, we have the This is the bed that we had the broccoli that we already harvested and we have watermelon and onions. So, we have a lot of different things on it. Let’s start with the onions. I don’t know if you can see the onions have bulbed out. It’s also raised, so I’m very excited about it. It is the Patterson onions. So, I’m going to be using these probably last out of all the onions because they’re supposed to be good for storage. Oh, I see cucumber beetles. There’s about nine in one square foot on this area. Then we have beside it the carrots. And I did pull out a carrot the other day to feed my sister’s dog. And they’re growing. The size has gotten a lot better. And besides that, we have we have the peppers. So, the California Wonder Sweet peppers. So, there’s about five on this one pepper. They’re looking very good. The sizing is really nice. I do think I’m going to have to start pulling off some of the peppers on here in order for it to focus its energy on growing and changing the color, fully ripening the peppers. Cuz what happened on this one, the California Wonder, we had a pepper fall off. I see I’m just letting it decompose in place, but um and then another one fell off. And we had five on here. Now we have three large no four large ones. And they’re still very hard. So, I’m assuming what needs to happen is in order for them to properly ripen, they need the energy. But they’re looking really good. This was my jalapeno pepper and it’s very behind mainly because it was sha casting is shaded out by the broccoli that was here previously. The seeds. So, remember previously we said that Cali planted uh watermelon seeds and we said a bird ate the seeds. I don’t know what the bird was eating, but it wasn’t the seeds because they did sprout. They germinated. And I thought it was Callie’s watermelon, but it’s not. So, we’re going to have to cut back one of these. We’re going to see whichever one’s the strongest, but they’re looking really good. Oh, yeah. There’s It’s another cucumber beetle, guys. I think my watermelon is is being attacked everywhere. This is the watermelon. It’s is going up. I am training up the trellis. I do have a few cucumber or not cucumbers, watermelons that have germinated or that have grown. You can see that there’s one and there’s ants on like where the pollen is. So, I don’t know if that’s because there’s aphids. Usually, there’s a lot of ants. It’s usually because there’s aphids. So, I’m going to have to identify and test this out and come out here and start getting rid of some cucumber beetles. Over here we have the peas. We had sugar snap peas and shelling peas, Alaska shelling peas. And come to find out, Cali likes snap or sugar snap peas more than the shelling peas. And so do I. So with that being said, I am going to be pulling up the shelling peas over here because we’re not really using it and I also harvested a lot. The only problem is that this sugar snap pee, let me show you guys, is shadowing out my peppers that are here and my jalapenos, which I don’t like. We’re going to go behind that onto this crazy bed. So, this is our tomato, primarily tomato bed with tomatoes, onions, and peas in this bed. And beh, and somewhere in the mix, I did have a basil. So, I don’t think I have a basil anymore. We are starting to see fruit develop on our tomatoes, which is making me which is exciting. So, fruits are developing. They’re Roma tomatoes, so I think they have enough space, which is Yes, Kelly. I’m happy about that. Then also, we have the blush onion, and they’re bulbing out as well, and they’re looking good. They’re not really good storage onions, but we’re probably going to use them really like right when we harvest it, we’re going to use it. And we have the walawalas. The walawalas were always bent over and I don’t know why. I have about five of them. And then I have a ntorium flagging. You guys know I have nersiums flagging four well three corners now of the garden beds. This is the first one that has put on any flower, which is exciting. It’s beautiful. And the tomatoes that we planted together, like we direct seeded it pretty much, or we put it in here when it was really young and late, they’re doing really well. I am going to be pulling out, well, we are going to do it together. We’re going to be pulling out these peas together because it’s already dying back. Then the last bed is the potato bed. I came up with a plan and it worked. So this side of potatoes, they’re standing up. They’re not hunched over and they look a lot more strong. So I used the tomato clips to clip it to the string. I don’t know why I didn’t think about doing this before, but it works. And because of that, they’re able to stand and support themselves a lot better. I still have to do this side. So, we’re probably going to be doing that together as well in the next video. And then we have our cucumber. So, lastly with the cucumber, I have two here. Two were planted cuz they’re supposed to you’re allowed to have two per square feet. Oh, look, Kelly. So, yeah, the cucumber beetles, it seems like they’re not really tackling these as much. I think they’re tackling my watermelon more because the watermelon are now putting on flowers. But also, I’ve been catching them like crazy. There’s one right there. But we do have a cuc two cucumbers on one of the plants. The other plant got topped. So it’s stopped growing. Let’s exit this area. And then we have our apple espalier. So the two apple trees that we have going on here, this apple tree is doing a lot better. I’m not sure if it’s because of the way I planted it or if it’s the the um species like the variety, but this is a liberty and it it needs to be I need to go further out this way. And I’m probably going to be cutting it soon to make the neck row of aspier this side. Look at that. I don’t know what’s going on here. I don’t know if it’s next year. I’m going to have to get another apple tree. I don’t know what it is, but I’m not happy about it. If you guys have any advice, let me know. the grafting is turned the opposite direction. So, I don’t know if it’s shaded out and maybe I should have when I planted it had the graft face. I think that’s east instead of the way it is facing. But if you have any ideas, let me know. Lastly, the back garden bed. Guys, it’s a lot. We have our blueberries. They are turning blue. I covered a good amount of them up with the cloth. so the birds don’t get into it before I do cuz they already I left one uncloth and I already see some blueberries that are missing. So there’s that. And then our strawberries. They already gave us a bunch of strawberries in the beginning of the season and they are starting to put on their second flush of strawberries. I do have in my green stock. I didn’t actually show you guys that my green stock has strawberries but we have not been picking them. We’ve been really bad at that. I don’t know. I’m not really into strawberries right now. I think we ate too many before. So, they’re just sitting here dying on the vine. I also have decided that I’m using the runners from one of the strawberries to grow more strawberries. So, yeah. So, I’m using the runner. As you can see, it’s one strawberry plant that’s producing. I think it’s like two or three runners that has going on here. I’m going to actually use this and put it in the side here and let it root out. Like this one is starting to root out. I actually have another one that rooted out already. Yes, Callie. Okay, so um I don’t know where we left off. I had to deal with Cali. Uh but Oh, yeah. We’re in the the green stock. I love my I love my green stock. The only thing is in Canada it’s not like it’s before when I bought it was really hard to buy. I couldn’t find a place at a good price. Um there is a place that I went online. I’ll link it below if you’re in Canada if you want to get a green stock. I’m not affiliated or anything like that, but uh they they were one of the only places that I could find the green stock. So, um I love that. Next thing is or last thing is we do have some seedlings that have germinated. We have our cucumbers. So, we planted these together recently. We had two I can’t remember what they call like these are the pickling cucumbers that came up. The one that I got from 2023 has not germinated as of yet, but the other has. The Oh, this looks feels like a little dry. The broccoli, none of them have germinated as of yet. I don’t know if it’s too hot outside or what. Maybe I should be doing them inside, but I just don’t want to set up my grow lights. So, hopefully this works. It’s in the shade, so it should be okay. Um, but they have not germinated as of yet. And one of the last things that we have for this season is the pumpkin. Um, the pumpkin is not sprawling out. It’s turning a like it’s getting a little bit lighter. I think I’m going to have to feed it some uh fertilizer, but they are it’s flowering. So, there’s one flower, two, three. I have one over here. So, I have four, five. Like, there’s a lot of flowers. I don’t know if it’s too soon for it to be flowering. Should be focusing on um you know, growing more before trying to put on flowers. It’s my first year of growing uh any kind of pumpkin. I’m only growing this for decoration cuz I don’t like to eat pumpkins. So, we’ll see. And then my cosmos finally are they have butts. I’m excited for these cuz I know that they look they’re so beautiful, but they’re massive. Like they’re beautiful. And our apple tree that we first planted 3 years ago has put on a lot of has put on a lot of growth. It is looking healthy. I’m definitely going to prune it in the fall. I don’t want to prune it right now. I’m going prune it in the fall just because we ended up covering the graft. So, it is a dwarf apple tree. Problem there. We covered up the graft after the fact cuz it was buried too deep and now it’s going to probably grow as a regular fulls size apple tree. With that being said, I’m going to continue to prune it and maintain it as a dwarf apple tree, but that means it’s going to take longer most likely for it to start putting on any type of blossom or bloom. I don’t know if you guys can tell, but my tripod broke and because of that, I cannot do any work in the garden with you guys right now. I have to buy another one. First it was my mic. Now it’s my tripod. Next is going to be my camera. I don’t know, but something does not want me making videos. All right. So, I’m going to go to the very front because I’m going to be changing a lot of stuff. So, if you go to the front here, I have two large trees and then an extension that I did. So, we’re going to be posting putting hostas all throughout here. And I’m going to try to figure out what shade loving plant I can put here as well. I love this area, but I don’t love this area. Um, I’m going to have to build up the soil. You guys, we did that together. I have a fern that I planted and some cosmos zenyas. Um, I’m sorry. Some sunflowers. Why are you screaming at me? I think I’m going to move these hostas as well cuz you can see the sun is hitting it. So, I’m going to move the hostels. This one I have to split. We’re going to do that next spring. Yeah, we’re going to have to split this next spring. We’re going to split that next spring. We’re going to put something else here. We have two roses blanking this area. I’m going to change this out to something else. I don’t know what. I think I want a Japanese maple in this area as well, but I believe that needs shade. So, we’ll figure it out together. But, as of right now, this is how it’s looking. And we moved to the house. I’m liking the way it looks. I don’t know what kind of tree this is. I know it’s some type of pine tree. is ever like the inside as well is it’s dying. It’s not as bad as the other one that I had to remove, but it is dying. We have a few peies. We have a pina here. We have a peony there and a peony tree that I planted this year. We are going to be changing out this area as well. So, the hasta here is looking okay. The the coline, they are looking pretty. I’m going to have to dead head them. It got burnt and dried out. So, I’m going to try to extend the irrigation to that as well. Um, and then I’m going to I think I’m going to be moving these hostas cuz this girl this Callie cuz the sun is hitting them a little too much. Like you can see we had the heat wave. When we had the heat wave, this is what happened to this hosta. Full sun damage. got sunburned badly. So, I’m thinking and also over here sunburned badly. So, I’m going to maybe plant them. I I want to plant something along this edge, but it seemed like it wasn’t deep enough. But now that I have my augur, I just might plant it in there. We will see. I can’t remember what these ones are called, but I love them. Like, from a distance, they pop so well. And then these are the snapdragons that we planted from seed. This is a Carl Forester grass that I got this year as well. I always wanted a Carl Forester grass. This is the first year that they’re in there and they look pretty good. So, I’m excited for those. And then we have our first year of having a hydrangeanger. It looks like it is about to bloom. It is the What kind of hydranger is this? Phantom. A phantom hydrangeanger. I don’t know if it being so close to this huge pine tree. I don’t know if you guys can see that. This huge pine tree, the roots from this pine tree has expanded everywhere and it is sucking up all of the the water. I think I’m going to put a around this pine tree emitters, drip emitters to give it some moisture so it doesn’t go looking for water from everywhere else. And then we have a rodon here, which I love. It looked so pretty when it was blossoming, but this first year that I planted it was where I had the pine tree previously. So, we’ll see how it does in this area. It does get shade, but it also gets some sun, as you can see. And then along this path, we have more hostas. I want to make this path beautiful. I think I want to fill it. Hello. I think I want to fill it with some beautiful hydrangeas. I just don’t know which kind of hydrangeas I’m going to be filling it with. But I want to have a whole line of hydrangeas here because it is shade, but it also gets some sun, too. The peies that were here, they we cut them back. They were so beautiful blossoming. But I don’t like the flowers on this one. I think they’re drying out. I don’t think Yeah, they’re drying out. I need to get I hope you guys enjoyed this video. It’s been a really wild one for me. Callie’s home from school, so it’s been hard for me to record. It’s been hard for me to edit. So, I’m making do with what I can. I have a lot of stuff that a lot of things on the list that I want to do. So, we have a lot of things to do into the garden, but I also have a lot of plans of things inside the house. I still haven’t posted to you guys the finished product of the coffee bar. It is completed. I have sanded it down. I stained it. I put it in place and it is up and we’ve been using it for like a week. It’s beautiful. So, if you want to see that and let me know in the comments below. I also have a few more projects I’m going to be doing inside the house as well as right now I’m going to go bake my uh sourdough bread. I don’t you guys need to see that cuz I’ve been baking with you guys for a while now. So I’ll see you in the next one. Bye.
