My yard was washing away every time it rained so I put in a retaining wall. I’ve never done something like this, so I thought I would post it here and see if anyone sees anything I need to course correct on.
Crushed stone for base/drainage? Can’t tell. Also going to need it behind the wall along with geotextile. Should also get blocks that interlock with spacers for added strength. Large hardware store blocks are no bueno.

Make sure you include drainage or your retaining wall will be more of a flood wall that will eventually collapse.

I’m not an expert, but I’m pretty sure this is not how this is supposed to be done. Soil against dry stacked stones will get saturated with water and blow out the wall.

Well, you are missing geotex, not enough drainage. Looks like is taller than 3 feet, so in most places you would need a permit and plans…
But otherwise, well, good luck…

I’m not sure why you think you need a retaining wall here rather than terrace grading and planting but whatever if you want a yard full of concrete. But I would have little faith and even what you’re doing here with this modular system. I doubt that this thing retains anything at all once it’s backfilled. It’s not properly drained and they will be a lot of hydrostatic pressure behind it once you bring the grade up. I’ll never understand these industrial looking solutions for residential use

Drain rock needs to go all the way to the top to avoid any run off through the top stones, fabric also needs to be put down in between the rock and dirt to avoid rocks from getting clogged up especially if it rains alot, geotex is not needed unless the wall os over 4ft, a drain tube also needs to be put down behind the 1st row with an exit point if not the base will eventually wash out (going through that with a customer right now from the last guy who did it) his base is washing out and the wall measures 4×80

Is there compacted gravel/drainage rock under that bottom row of blocks? Sure hope so. If not, those blocks will 100% move.
Then you need stone behind the blocks with a geotextile fabric between the stone and dirt. Otherwise the dirt will mix with the rock eventually and you will have drainage issues. See the image in this post.
Another example of a retaining wall being built where there doesn’t need to be a retaining wall. I will never understand these. They are so expensive, and it didn’t need to be put here.

Almost nothing looks correct here.

My man it’s a beautiful wall. I would say you need to have a foot of gravel directly behind the block for drainage. Would drain tile be a good option here too? Always, yes, better to be safe than sorry

Those blocks aren’t rated to be load bearing
Looks great!!!
