Just leave it alone and make sure that there are no poisons (slug pellets) or stuff that it can get trapped in your garden (netting). It’s probably got a home and is just gonna help you out by eating slugs etc.. maybe leave out a bowl of water.

Water and dry dog food. They love it πŸ™‚

  3. Check out r/hoggies for lots of hedgehog information.

Most important is access to safe water, a shallow plant tray they can’t get stuck in is ideal.

You can build or buy a house, fill it with straw and not to close to the house.

If you plan on offering food use hedgehog or cat food. Dog food has to much vegetable content which isn’t good for them. For comfort a feeding station can really help them feel safe and stops the local cat eating all the food.

  4. Shallow bowl of water and dry cat/dog food as mentioned (meat not fish).

I’ve made a couple of houses for them, if you have the time there’s a lot of guides online.

You can create a dead hedge in your garden throughout the year. Brash piles are great for insects which hedgehogs eat, and if the hedge is good enough the hedgehog might even move in.

Putting out a shallow dish of water is really helpful. If your garden has plenty of insect life you’re already helping as hedgehogs are insectivores.

If he becomes a regular visitor you could get or build a feeding station. Chicken kitten kibble is the best thing. No dried mealworms and absolutely no milk.

If you set up a trail cam you may find he visits multiple times a night. Mine do, and the one hedgehog I thought I had turned out to be at least 3 different ones.

  7. It all depends on your local planning laws. Get in touch with a councillor ASAP. Alternatively, you could use a mobile home without the worry of planning regulations.

one or two visit my garden when they feel like it. during the summer they don’t need a house as much as winter hibernation, but if you build a cat proof one he might rent it permanently until hibernation

  9. Just make sure you don’t block up any ways for it to get in and out, Hedgehogs need quite a large territory and may well just be passing through your garden on its nightly rambles. Leaving out water and a dry cat/dog food will ensure it makes it a regular event.

They eat things like slugs and snails which can be pests to certain garden plants (marigolds, brassicas etc), they’re a gardeners friend.

You can put out water and dry wild hedgehog food for them if you want and a hedgehog house (you can buy them online).

Water and food. Ark wildlife do specialised hedgehog food (which they love). And make sure they can easily get in and out of your garden.

You don’t have to do anything if it’s there it’s happy. Only time to
worry is if you see them wandering around in the daytime.

Perhaps now you know they’re there, be careful when you mow the lawn/ strim to check for sleeping hoggies first.

You can absolutely build them a little house! I’ve seen them for sale at garden centres!
