My milkweed won’t flower this year but I saw one (1) monarch flutter through my yard the other day and it filled me with so much joy

Hey OP, I can’t see where you’re located. Is Tropical Milkweed native to your area? Apparently it’s been sold at higher latitudes where it can have detrimental impacts on monarchs.

seeing monarchs in your garden is so wonderful! it looks like that’s tropical milkweed (Asclepias currasava) and it looks like you’re probably in Texas so [unfortunately that plant can actually do a lot of harm to the monarchs](https://xerces.org/blog/tropical-milkweed-a-no-grow) since it’s outside it’s native range. the issues are that since it’s evergreen it allows for the build-up of harmful parasites and since it doesn’t stop blooming at an appropriate time in the fall, the monarchs may be tricked into staying instead of migrating to survive winter. it’s really messed up that stores care more about the profit that they’ll trick people into buying something they think is helping the environment but is actually hurting it

Gotta yank out that tropical milkweed, friend. Luckily the alternatives are quick to grow! 🫡
