happy New Year welcome back to the garden now we’re in the second year time is flying really quickly now the first thing I’m going to be doing is to sort out my seeds I’m not entirely sure what seeds I do have and what I still need to get now I’m thinking I probably got everything in my seed box but I need to spend some time and go through that now something that’s new for 2022 is my plan to put up a gardenin video every Friday and every Sunday will be a rambling Style video and every Wednesday will be Sha’s Vlogs so if you don’t if you’re not interested in the other two stuff that’s fine cuz you you can guarantee that there will be a gardening video every Friday and that’s what I’ll be doing through 2022 now one of the first things I should really show you especially if you’re new here is the plans for the garden because I’m hoping this year to get everything done by at least the middle of spring now on past years in this area February has been a write off you can’t do anything in February whatsoever that’s when we usually get a lot of snow and that’s when the bulk of the Wind win comes so I’m trying to do my plan with February out of the equation what’s it like in your area tell me in the comments below so let’s have a look at the plan for [Music] 2022 it’s nice to see the sun even for 20 minutes haven’t seen it for such a long time so let us have a look at what I’m going to be doing over the next year so I’ve got fruit up the top here this is going to be a designated fruit garden with an area that I can sit there now I still got a lot of uh soft fruit to go in so they will go in this section I was thinking about putting the compost bin buried into the bank down there but now I’m thinking against it that’s a hell of a lot of work to move that bank to put that in so I’m thinking maybe this could go up against the fence there that’s an idea so when I’ve put all my soft fruit in I think it might come down to about this section here so on this side and this side all this will be vegetables so that’s what’s that three beds of Edge and all along the bank here will be flowers that’s my plan at the moment but I’m going to do the beds differently than I’ve ever done before because I’m thinking about doing them in the way that market gardeners do theirs where they are only 2 and 1/2 ft wide along the strip and to grow things closer together a bit more intensely that’s my idea at the moment and also I’ve got the flower bed in front of the greenhouse there and on the other side where there’s a lot of stuff that I still need to sort out so just in front of you there will be a pond I want to try and do all this before April it’s doable depends if the weather plays ball with me in that last week of December it was just wet and uh couldn’t really do much so I’m hoping that Jan January will be like what it has been like in the past where we have nice sunny days but like I said in the shed just now February is usually a band month so I’m going to try and do all this with only thinking about January and March to do it so there’s a lot to do but I think you’ll get [Music] done one thing that I’m unsure of at the moment is this fence it’s an old dilapidated fence and there’s actually a a newer fence behind it but I haven’t decided yet whether I’m going to go to the trouble of taking all this fence down and I’m thinking take the panels down but leave the posts in and then on the post tie some hook and eyes and put some metal and then I could have clematis growing down it I don’t know cuz I do like the way that this looks what do you think tell me below should I tidy this up or leave it rural just ta my barometer and apparently fair weather is on the way it’s about time doesn’t that look beautiful a kettle in the sunshine question I wanted to ask you was this burner that I’ve got I’m going to gas at the moment but I find that these tend to freeze up in really cold weather like it is today minus one and I wanted to know how do you C in your shed do you have a little stove like that you get the same issue does your gas freeze up how do you deal with it if you can offer any advice to me tell me in the comments below if you follow me on Instagram you would have seen the other day that I went into wilers and I Su come I bought a few seeds and I’ll be sewing these in the next few weeks that’s that steeper grass I could do with some more of that for uh the bank there down by the fence and I’ve got the majority of my seeds for this year cuz I’m using what I didn’t use for last year but you can’t walk past the seed store without buying something so I’ve bought a few things just very quickly show you and I’ll start sewing these in a few weeks nicotiana is a really nice one for evening scent and the good old favorite night scented stock if you’ve watched me for any length of time you will know this is my favorite scented flow so if you haven’t got any get some of it now and it will really fill up your uh Garden or alotment with a really heavy scent in the evenings night scented stock it’s beautiful it is a very very cold day today in the garden minus one on the temperature so what can I do when it’s frosty it’s best to stay off the land don’t go on there at all because you will break up the structure of the U of the earth so stay off the land and in the greenhouse here I’m not going to start sewing I know there’s a lot of people at this time of year will start sewing with grow lights and uh heated mats I haven’t got any of that I don’t believe in that I like to grow things naturally as it was intended plus it’s a lot cheaper to do things in line with nature rather than going against it I was watching a uh Tony C Smith the other day and he was saying that his uh chilies that he grew last year cost him about 600 in uh electric bills so that’s why I don’t don’t do it what’s the point in spending money when you don’t need to so I’m in the greenhouse and I will be sewing but in a few weeks time let’s try and get over this cold snap so what am I doing today I’m in the uh Greenhouse here and I thought I would uh take better care of my tools so I’m going to start off I’ve got a hard brush there and I’m just going to take the dirt off so let’s go down here in fact I’ll use a plant label because this is caked on the ground here there’s quite a bit of clay contained within it to be honest I usually just leave my tools out on the garden but this is quite a nice Spade that I bought about 2 years ago and I’m finding tools are not that cheap these days and in 2022 I think quite a few of us us we’ll have to uh cut back a bit and be a bit more frugal so we got to take care of our tools a bit more cuz money is not going to be in abundance this year I can already feel it going back to a bit like it the Warriors I would imagine make do and mend and that’s what I’ll be doing this year right let’s use this do you do this to your tools or don’t you or don’t you bother do you just throw them in the shed and forget about them there we go what about you do you tend to grow with lights or do you just let nature take its course tell me in the comments below now I bought this off Amazon a 3 in1 oil and I’ll put links to all this stuff in the description below and how do you get it open is the question how’ you open it hold on tell me below are you a person that uses heat maps and uh grow lights now everything I’m using here I’ll put the links in the description but I bought this from Amazon it’s a 3in one oil and I’m going to get a cloth put a little bit on the cloth here like that and then I’m going to use that for the blade you watch this now it’ll be nice and buff by the time we finish with it you could use if you wanted to some WD40 which I haven’t got in fact I did think that I had some but you don’t want too much but you want a enough to CAU the surface look at that buffness coming up [Music] already right I’ll just put it down on my knee cuz it’ll be a lot easier at that almost looking brand new won’t be long now before the jobs in the garden will start to pile up so I’m going to try and be one step ahead this year but it all depends on the weather and the weather recently has been having can I describe it gloomy today is the first sunny day that we’ve had in 2022 and it’s freezing there not a lot you can do other than just do your tools or maybe clean the shed out again how many times can you just do that right so I’m going to turn it over look at that got the glistening on that so I’m going to do the the front side now same thing put a bit of oil on so one thing I’m doing this year is I’m going to aim for putting out three videos a week let me just watch it and smash it green house I’m going to aim for three videos a week and certain days we’ll have certain videos so if you want to watch a gardening based video that will go out on a Friday my rambling videos will go out on a Sunday and then on a Wednesday my Vlogs will go out and my Vlogs will be anything else that I’m interested in so whether that’s just being in the house doing a bit of cooking or I might start doing a bit of uh painting bit of drawing I was cleaning out the spare room the other day and I found my watercolor paints so I might do that although I’m not very good at it so Wednesday was will just be Vlogs of anything else that I’m that I’m up to so if for example you only want to watch the gardening then you know that Friday is the day for gardening if you only want to watch the rambling tune in on a Sunday I’m also going to do this uh shaft there’s nothing like a having a shiny shaft is there this is what the old victorians would have been doing at this time of year when they couldn’t get out on the land all Harry Dodson and the boys would have been in the shed buffing up their tools look at that I can’t get over how good it looks do the lugs as well cuz you got to have a clean lug so yes for the next few weeks the garden I don’t think a lot will be going on to to be honest I will be sewing some seeds at let me think third week in third week in the month I’ve got some flowers I want to put in but I’m not doing them on heat I’m just put putting them on the bener and they can take their chance and if they get through then that’s a bonus so that looks Grand doesn’t it now let us do the handle and what I’m going to do here is I’m going to use a new cloth and I’ve got some wood lined oil and that I’m going to use for the handle now you want to get in all the little nooks and crannies cuz that’s where the uh the blighters are any [Music] pests hiding in there trying to over winter this is quite an enjoyable task over on my website Shan James cameron.com if you click on the button for the Garden in blog I will be putting some articles on there every week during the season and there’s an article on there about how to clean clean your tools which is basically what I’m doing here now so tell me in the comments below what are you up to in your Gardens this year do you have any Grand plans one of my grand plans is to uh build a pond hopefully I can get that done by March but again all depends on the weather as has a nice smell in this greenhouse I must say look at that almost like brand new well I’m really pleased with that I’ll give a few more quotes on the handle and I’ll get in there but um that’s all for now so thanks for joining me for the first gardening video of 2022 like I said it’s all weather dependent so let’s hope that this nice weather stays around for a while and then I can really get on and uh get one step ahead this year so thanks for joining me and I’ll see you next Friday so from me until then on my shiny Spade bye for now look at that beautiful need a cup of tea after this
