Is it possible to graft productive apple branches onto an already grown Pacific Northwest crabapple (Malus fusca)? Mine is about 10-15 years old (it was quite large when we bought it) and has never fruited. I have been hoping for crabapples every year but every year we get none.
I was hoping if I grafted other apple varietals to it that those branches might actually fruit? Has anyone got experience with that? I don’t know what varietal they normally use for rootstock but this is what I have. It was heavily browsed by deer the first few years but it has outgrown that now. It’s probably around 3 metres tall now?
