4in garlic spacing versus 6 in garlic spacing doesn’t make a difference. Setting up the experiment November 2024. Now in this particular bed I am using 6 in spacing and the other bed I’m going to go ahead and try 4 in spacing. I’m really interested to see if it’ll make a difference. We’ll we’ll see what happens. Okay, so the first observation was this 4-in spacing bed was done first. Now I start running into problems. I’ve had this issue for a little while where the roots and stuff rot off the bottom. It doesn’t affect them all, but it does affect enough of them to where it’s kind of discouraging. I end up losing probably about 15% of the bulbs in this bed. [Music] Here’s another one coming up. Look at that. The bottom of it is just all rotted off. and it starts early, so it isn’t because I waited too long. Pretty frustrating, though. Overall, this bed performed pretty well. I got some nice size garlic out of it. Check that out. Pretty nice. Interesting enough, this bed took 6in spacing bed took an additional couple of weeks for it to get fully mature and and rise. Now, that could be the spacing. Uh I’m not exactly sure, but I’m I’m saying that it’s probably the spacing. The average bulbs in this bed were definitely bigger. That could have been because of the extra time that it took for it to mature. and my losses due to the uh garlic root nematodeses or whatever the problem has been was far far less. I ended up losing one plant in this entire bed. So, if you’ve got the space, I would definitely recommend. And the winner is 6 in spacing.
