The more I read about string of pearls through the context of them being a ground cover type plant, the more I wonder if the strings hanging are detrimental to their health. Maybe the plants shallow roots don’t appreciate the tension of hanging – I’m actually testing this by propagating some cuttings a wide shallow dish.

I would try putting them into a smaller terracotta pot. They have small roots and like to be squeezed in a pot. I would go down a pot size, make some well draining soil, and start over by propagating them into the pot. I have mine in a small pot and when they start to hang they are bunched together so I would assume they have more support that way. I would get a succulent or desert mix, add sand and perlite to it.

My fav mix for pearls is foxfarm oceanforest, which is the only soil I use. I add equal parts perlite and chicken grit. I typically use poultry grit which is larger than chicken grit in more established plants but bc strings roots are so dainty, I use the chicken grit so the mix still has somr well draining grit to it.
