In the city center of Zhytomyr, gardener Vitaliy Linevich grows a rare variety of fig peach in his own garden on a private estate. Despite the unstable weather and temperature fluctuations in April and May this season, the tree bloomed and is currently forming fruits. This was reported by Suspilne.

According to Vitaliy Linevich, the main secret of such success is the proper care of this garden culture.
“Familiar people often ask how this year, with such unstable weather conditions, we managed to support this exotic tree and hope for a good harvest. And I tell them – it is exclusively our constant work near this tree and conscientious care for it. From early spring, until now and into deep autumn,” said the Zhytomyr gardener.
First and foremost, says the gardener, it is important to timely and correctly prune, fertilize, water, and protect the peach tree from pests.
“The fig peach growing in our garden is 15 years old. We prune it twice a year without fail. We regulate the harvest annually. We hope that with this approach, our tree will live long,” said Vitaliy Linevich.
According to the gardener’s information, considering the sharp temperature fluctuations this spring, trees like peaches required additional protection from the cold.
“When spring came, and our fig peach bloomed, we protected it from frost. We used both watering and smoke at the same time. Then we pruned it quite a lot. Instead of three, we did four treatments with fungicides and insecticides, as well as anti-stress agents.
To keep our culture alive, we removed some leaves. We see that our leaves are healthy, and we have enough fruits. We have already regulated them this year. Maybe we will have to thin them out a bit more. And we hope that if the weather and our knowledge do not fail us, we will have a good harvest of fig peaches this summer,” said the Zhytomyr gardener.
According to Vitaliy Linevich, during the vegetation period, the peach tree requires regular and abundant watering.
“First: when our harvest ripens, we must provide good moisture for the tree. And second: when we have harvested, and the tree begins to prepare for a dormant state, it must be fed with potassium fertilizers. This will give it strength, resistance to harsh winters, and ripening in the next season,” said Vitaliy Linevich.
