The old Boston Garden no longer exists, formerly occupying a space adjacent to the new arena that the Boston Celtics play in, called “TD Garden” these days. But not all of the old Garden is gone, it turns out — evidently, much of the Celtics’ original home arena has found its way into the floor of a house in Connecticut.
Closer to New York City than the City of Boston, the town of New Canaan can be found in the panhandle of the state to the south and west of Massachusetts. And per reporting earlier this summer from Boston Dot Com’s Megan Johnson, that is where one can find a substantial chunk of the old Garden. The owner of the property remodeled a historic barn to incorporate the familiar parquet pattern into the floor to create an indoor basketball court that has seen some of the greatest moments in NBA history take place on it.
“Anybody who knows that sees this flooring and makes the connection right away,” said realtor Jennifer Crowley of Douglas Elliman. “I don’t know that they realize they’re actual pieces from the original Boston Garden.”
It likely goes without saying that the former owner (the property is now for sale), who worked for Goldman Sachs to afford the sort of sumptuous digs that are required for surrounding such a historic indoor ball court.
