I've just recently made my first jar terrarium, 1 gallon with some moss, fittonia, and springtails. It sits on my computer desk with a typical desk light just above. As I'm often sitting at this desk, I need to find a light that's appropriate for both the terrarium, as well as not straining my eyes throughout the day/evening.

Until now, I had been using a 900 lumen, 2700k, 13w(60w) LED. This works well for the eyes, however I'm reading it likely won't be enough to keep the terrarium healthy/happy. I'm now trying a 1600 lumen, 5000k, 14w LED, however it is quite intense and I feel it'd be rather straining on the eyes.

I was hoping someone might have experience with this, to give recommendations for an LED bulb that is easier on the eyes, but will still be good for the terrarium. If a different light fixture would help with this, I'm also willing to purchase one that'd help better direct the light. For now I've put a piece of paper above the light, to help focus it downward towards the terrarium.

Any help is much appreciated!

can’t give you exact answer but I’ve found terrariums do not need much light at all
