At this time of year, gardens waver between parched and slightly overgrown. The brambles and long grass especially seem to really go for it about now, and sometimes the only thing to do is strim, strim, strim.

Amazon has a deal on a strimmer that hundreds of gardeners have rated five stars. The Gompuy Strimmer is £43.59 down from £58.99, that’s 26% lopped off. The overall 4.1 starred bit of kit is cordless, so no worries about accidentally slicing through the cord while out gardening, and it is designed for small to medium sized gardens, rather than huge ones.

It’s nice and light and not too loud, plus it comes with plastic and metal blades, to use depending on what needs pruning. There’s a pair of gloves and goggles thrown in too, so hands are protected while strimming.

Alternatively, give the Flymo Contour XT 300W Corded Grass trimmer from B&Q a go. It does have a cord, but has a ‘scrubbing’ mode for tackling tricky to reach spots, plus a two year guarantee.

Argos has the McGregor 30cm Corded Grass Trimmer – 450W for £45, which is cheaper than the Gompuy, but again, it is corded. It can be used on bushes as well as grass, for keeping everything shipshape.

The strimmer is cordless, so alleviates concerns about accidentally slicing through the cord while out gardening, and it is designed for small to medium sized gardens, rather than huge ones.

One shopper said of the Gompuy strimmer: “I cannot believe what this little machine can do! I was skeptical from the price but was limited in budget so took the risk and I am so pleased with the results. It is really lightweight too and the battery lasts and lasts. Having a second one is a great bonus. The secateurs are a nice added bonus and aren’t actually too bad. As I’m too cheap to buy expensive ones I go through them like the clappers!”

A second said: “I’m really impressed with this for the price. Super lightweight but not at all flimsy. Haven’t tried the metal blades yet but the plastic ones are great. Quite study and, because they’re held on with a bolt, don’t flick off or snap every 2 minutes. Including googles, gloves and a pair of pouring shears is a nice touch.”

A third said: “Great little strimmer, so light and easy to use. Was so happy with it I bought one for my daughter too. Would highly recommend.”

However, one customer said: “The product and accessories were well packaged upon arrival. The strimmer itself is very good for the price, easy to use and simple to put together. The range of blades included is a real plus. The accessories included: the gloves, eye protection and saw were perhaps not of the highest quality but you cannot complain for the price. The 24V batteries last a reasonable time and the cutting performance is quite good for the power.”

Another added: “Ok the pros are : it’s not expensive, it’s light and easy to use , very easy to change blades etc , and extremely useful. Cons: overheats and cuts out , it’s great for very light work only don’t try to do to much with it it’s just not that robust.”

The Gompuy strimmer is now available on Amazon.
