A husband and wife were found dead Thursday after two calls to two separate police departments about 350 miles apart.

Garden Grove Police made a gruesome discovery around 8 a.m. after a young girl called 911, asking officers to help her mom. Upon arrival, investigators discovered 37-year-old Crystal Gonzalez dead inside a short-term rental home on Morgan Lane, according to police.

The two children were found unharmed and unaware of what happened, police said.

Police began a search for Miguel Lopez, the father of the two children, before receiving a tip from family members saying his car was spotted over 300 miles north in the city of Stockton.

Lopez, 35, had shot a 54-year-old man at Elk Horn Reserve Country Club before taking his own life, according to the Stockton Police Department.

Records show that the couple shared a home in Lodi, about 6 miles south of the Stockton shooting.

Garden Grove police say that Lopez was spotted leaving the Garden Grove home early Thursday morning. Investigators found no evidence of forced entry at the home.

It’s still unclear how Gonzalez died.
