We have two small flower beds at the end of our driveway and a bigger one by the house. We were quoted $200 from a landscaping company to remove all the weeds and clean up the beds. No new rock, no new mulch, literally just remove weeds and brush.

These are all pictures from AFTER the job was “completed.” They basically told us they removed all they could and the rest they either couldn’t do or would have to be sprayed with weed killer (which they didn’t do). We estimate that they maybe were here for 30 minutes or less before they texted they were done (a storm was about to come through).

I just feel like that’s not right. I’m not a landscaper and even I can tell that they missed a lot of stuff lol.

Did we get ripped off? Or are we asking them to do too much? I’m genuinely curious. At this point we are kind of mind boggled and just want outside opinions. Unfortunately the household members were at work while this was going on so we couldn’t check right away. Thanks in advance.

Should point out too that they told us they couldn’t remove all the grass looking stuff in the small bed which also seems ridiculous.

All that rock is a PITA, and we have no idea how bad your “before” was, but that is certainly not a finished job!

  3. Grass inside rocks need to be sprayed. You can’t get rid of it by pulling it.
That is poison ivy all around ac unit.
Also needs to be sprayed with poison ivy spray.

Idk seems like $200 to pull some weeds was fair And job isn’t complete…. But probably rest needs to be sprayed. When did they do it? Sprays can take time before noticing an effect.

This is the kind of thing you gotta do yourself, or work towards having a relationship with someone you trust to do the regular maintenance. Part of that includes making sure you know what’s there and what you want. Not every problem plant requires the same plan. Is that mike a minute vine? You can hand pull jt all, and it’ll be back the next day. Needs a different strategy.
And $200 doesn’t get you very far with a crew.

need to get all that vegetation off the heat pump.

You need to DIY or start hiring neighborhood kids to do a better job! P.S. Remove the vines from the a/c condenser immediately. That affects the functionality of your unit.

Oh I agree, I normally would do it myself. However over the past year I’ve been helping to take care of my mom who was recovering from a major spinal injury and between that and working full time, I just don’t have the time to do it this year. I fully intend on next year doing it myself like I usually do.

Hell if anyone is spraying poison into my hvac lol. That shit needs to be pulled.

I would just boil a bunch of water and dump it on the weeds and poison ivy. It should kill those plants, or at least make it manageable until next year when you cam manually get to it.

I tried the boiling water on Ivy, and it worked well. Especially if you don’t want to use chemicals near your house. I have an active toddler and try to avoid the chemicals.

  10. $200 is not enough and neither is the work they did

Yeah, that’s a hot mess. They should have pulled a lot more of that bindweed—that stuff is nasty and will not get better if left.

That’s also a crazy price for the work performed. It wouldn’t have taken that much longer to do the job right, and it would still be pricey since it was just labor.

My landscaper is expensive (and worth it), and he does a LOT more work for $200.

And as other mentioned, that’s crazy they left the poison ivy/virginia creeper all over the HVAC unit.

As an aside, some of your plants are looking unhappy. If that’s Gardenia radicans, it would probably like some shade and a cooler mulch and maybe some acid fertilizer like Holly Tone. However, gardenias also just like to be little bitches and look like hell.

It also looks like your hostas are getting cooked—they’re a shade plant.

That looks like common milkweed growing—did you plant that? Milkweed is a great pollinator/larval host plant, but common milkweed isn’t the best species for smaller garden spaces, as it can spread aggressively.

  12. I pay a guy $40/week to mow. Once a month, I ask him to weed all my landscaping beds. Those days I pay him $100. Mine is as bad or worse than yours.

They did a terrible job!! The didn’t pull the obvious weeds which at tall as the shepherd hook!! Poison ivy around the AC and other places weren’t touched. That’s their job. I would send pics to their boss and complain. But of course we’re all suppose to just accept shitty work and shut up about it!
I’m sick of people “providing a service” and overcharging, undoing jobs and thinking it’s okay. I may be a senior woman but I’m not stupid!
That’s their sin and will never work for me again!!

  14. BudSpencer1714

Hello, yes indeed, they ripped you off!!

  15. motorwerkx

Yes, you got ripped off. For $200 they should have pulled all of the large weeds and sprayed all of the small stuff. That job is 1 guy and about an hour with travel.

  16. Practical_Wind_1917

Their idea of removing the weeds is probably spraying them. they usually take a couple days to start working

  17. Background_Guess_742

Thats poison ivy growing up and around your account unit. Yea they should’ve pulled a little more and sprayed. They probably started in one area and were working their way around the house but stopped due to the storm you spoke of. They should’ve pulled all the big weeds and weeds growing in the middle of the plants and then sprayed the rest of the small/hard to pull weeds. Since they tried to do a quick job. Probably not much profit in a job like this when you figure $20 per man hour.

  18. Garden_Espresso

Pay my gardener $25 an hour for extra work.
Seems high for 30 minutes of work.

  19. randomyokel

My guess is dude under quoted. You said it was two landscapers that did the work? I bet when they started going at it they realized there was a lot more involved so they did quick once over and bounced to avoid operating at a loss.

  20. cerebralvision

Lol I thought this was the before and I was cycling through the pics to see the afters.

  21. Looks like you got the landscaper who thanks get rid of weeds means spray some s*** and go home

  22. Mystery_repeats_11

I keep plants away from my air conditioner to prevent air flow blockage or overheating (especially a vine/poison ivy!) So sorry you got a raw deal on this 😒

  23. Decemberchild76

What was the work to include?
    Was there a contract ?
Were the stones already present or did that include putting doe the stones ? If stones were placed Weed control cover put down under the stones?
What is the time lapse between job completion and weed issue?
If it was a straight weeding job and this appeared with a week time I would be rip roaring mad

  24. AppropriateFigures

Some of those “weeds” are 0lanys
