Hi! I was tasked with getting a giant house spider (aratigena duellica) out of the house, but decided that I would try keeping it instead. I made my first makeshift terrarium for the time being with intent on building a bigger one soon.

To make this little guy as happy as possible I was wondering what specific things I can do to make him more comfortable! Or if I should just release him as I wouldn’t want to be harming him in anyway.

(Also if anyone could tell me if it’s a male or female I’d be very grateful)
Thanks in advance!

That looks awsome make sure you have some kind of light

He needs a source of food like insects or flies. Maybe release him and then get some terrarium friendly critters 💚

  3. It’s female, may impromptu lay some eggs 😅 that’s a cool setup though, you should look into getting a jumpy spider 👀

Thank you guys so much for the help!! Quick update I’ve released her outside and am going to prepare more before hopefully housing a jumping spider! Great to suddenly find a new hobbie though and I’m looking forward to posting my creations here! 😁
