When the bud can’t use anything else from the leaves, they dry up – and can be very difficult to detach while they are still small. As far as the roots – I think your dirt is too wet. It looks like potting soil. What are you using?

Some are probably sunstressed so maybe less sun could be nice. But the same thing happened to my jades when they got too wet, their roots got mold on them and died and they took a long time to regrow them :/ I’d guess that it’s a moisture thing. They won’t need water until the mother leaves complete die off

substrate is too dense and these look like they have been placed in an air fryer…or direct sunlight with zero acclimation
