PLANS for a beer garden at an Inverclyde golf club have been approved – four years after the facility first came into operation.

Officials from Inverclyde Council have granted retrospective permission for the beer garden and outdoor seating at Port Glasgow Golf Club.

According to a report compiled by a planning official from the local authority, the outdoor area has been operating under various temporary licences at the club’s Devol Road base since 2021.

The land used for the beer garden is immediately outside the clubhouse and features astroturf, fencing and seating on a patch of land which was previously part-grass, part putting green.

Council officers rubber-stamped the application with a condition that no amplified or live music be allowed in the outdoor area.

“It should also be noted that there is likely to have been informal use of the building curtilage for hospitality and the general activity associated with the golf club (i.e. arriving, leaving, golf participation) would have resulted in a degree of noise impact that residential neighbours would have become accustomed to.”

The club dates from 1895 and was extended in 1920, though the clubhouse in its present form dates back to around 1980.
