It’s squash vine borers, which come for us all. They lay eggs in the soil, which hatch and bore into the stem of our popular squash varietals, and will overnight kill a whole plant. We all try to to them- covering the stems with foil, setting the moths on fire, injecting BT into the stems with needles, etc. All to no avail.
It’s a part of gardening in our ecosystem and frankly, while there are a hundred remedies online, it’s not gonna work. Plant a SVB-resistant strain next year and let this one go. We honor your sacrifice
