Longtime lurker and very, very green on the gardening scene. I’ve just moved out of my home with my two small children after their dad spectacularly left. And guess who the gardener was? So I’m in a new place and I have no idea what I’m doing. There’s a litany of these tiny weeds in the garden beds. I spent two hours the other day pulling these out one by one, only for them to resurface almost immediately. Please, help a time-poor girl out with some advice on how to best deal with these!
Many thanks.

Hit them with glyphosate/zero and mulch over the top.

Cover with cardboard and then mulch on top. Those little ones are a neverending job

If there are no other plants in the garden bed, you can just turn the earth over with a garden fork and basically use the weeds as green compost.

After you’ve done that, mulch to a depth of at least 3cm. Sugar cane mulch is cheap but tea tree or wood chip will last longer. Wait a couple of weeks and pull out any further weeds that come up, plant the bed with the plants you want, then add another thin layer of mulch. After that the weeding should be far less frequent

Pull out by hand. Will not take long.

Pulling weeds out is an endless game. If you don’t have plans for the garden a better option is to seed weeds you like. Things like calendula, nasturtium, corn flowers and marigolds all grow incredibly easily and will suppress these less desirable weeds once established. The bonus is they are very cheap to plant from seed.

Mulch 8 – 12 inches thick. Again in 5 years. I do this and never weed.
