Zone 4b/Minnesota. Its about 3×6 ish space. Nothing 30+ preferably. You can see the sidewalk, and the dirt area will be a paver patio so clearly I dont want something with roots that'll make everything uneven.
Is this enough space? Better suggestions for woody/shadyish plants? This whole area will be gardened around the patio.

Eastern redbud would be solid here but I’d be mindful of salt spray. Short enough to be below your power lines, hardy down to zone 4, and native to Minnesota with bonus points if you get the “Minnesota Strain” specifically bred for MN climate so less maintenance & chance of death.

When you plant it, follow proper planting guidelines like what r/tree has to offer. I’d plant it this month or in Spring so it has plenty of time to develop roots before extreme temps hit. Plant it so root ball is at ground level and look up “donut mulching” instead of volcano mulching. I’d kill the grass within 3feet of the tree’s base by covering it in cardboard then mulch, if I wanted the tree to thrive for a long time at least.
