hello everyone and welcome back to my channel today we are tackling a challenge that is close to my heart and I know many of you can relate to it especially here in Nigeria we are talking about gardening on difficult terrain whether you are in a bustling city like Lagos where space is a premium or in a more rural area with rocky or sloped land growing your own food or beautiful flowers can seem impossible i have seen firsthand how people struggle with this my home grandmother she had the most incredible green thumb but even she had trouble with the rocky soil around our house in Enugu but what if I told you there is a way to overcome these challenges a way to bring the beauty and bounty of nature right to your doorstep no matter where you are that solution my friend is container gardening this method is a game changer it is versatile adaptable and perfect for anyone facing these challenges think about it you are not limited by the ground beneath your feet you can create a garden anywhere on your balcony your patio your rooftop even on that seemingly unusual rocky part in your backyard colorful pots on a balcony tied container on the slope vertical gardens in the small spaces you can use all sort of containers too from recycle plastic bottles and whole tires to beautify terra cotta pot and custom made wooden planters get creative with it the possibilities are endless let’s look at why container gardening is so amazing especially for us in Nigeria overcoming difficult terrain let like we discussed container gardening let you bypass rocky soil slopes and limited space soil control you get to use the best soil mix for your plants so you can grow things that wouldn’t normally thrive in your area no more struggling with poor native soil water management in areas with heavy rainfall or drought containers help you control how much water your plants get this is super important with our changing weather patterns pests and disease control it is easier to keep an eye on your plants and protect them from pests and diseases when they are in containers portability you can move your garden around follow the sun or bring your plants indoors during heavy rains or hamatan as a stability container gardening is easier on the back and knees no more bending over for long periods have healthy plant in container someone easily water okay now let’s talk about what you can actually grow the good news is that many plants thrive in containers in Nigeria’s climate here are a few of my favorite vegetables tomatoes peppers living green like spinach and k herbs like basil and mint and even some root vegetables like carrots in deeper containers fruits do have variety of citrus popup and even some types of banana can do well in containers flowers vibrant flowers like abiscus bonga villa vice and celissia add beauty and attract pollinators staples even crops like yam and cava can be grown in large containers or grow bags before you rush off to start your container gardens here are a few tips to ensure your success choose the right container make sure it has drainage hole use good quality soil don’t use regular garden soil invest in a good potting mix water regularly container plants dry out faster than those in the ground fertilize container plants need regular feeding use organic or slow release fertilizer sunlight place your containers in the spot that get enough sunlight for your plants choose i remember when I first started container gardening i was living in a small apartment in Ibadon and I thought I couldn’t grow anything but I started with a few tomato plants in buckets and the feeling of a vesting my own tomatoes was incredible it was so um empowering that is what I want for you that feeling of connection to the earth no matter where you live so don’t let difficult terrain hold you back embrace the power of container gardening start small experiment and most importantly have fun with it get your hands dirty and watch your little space transform i had love to hear about your container gardening experiences on or your plans too i had love to hear about your container gardening experiences or your plans to start one please share your thoughts and question in the comment below and don’t forget to like this video and subscribe to my channel for more gardening tips and inspir
