Not much of a poster typically but my heart is so happy! So much diversity in just one small butterfly weed patch! This garden is about three years old. A second video coming of even more insect species. I don't think I can add it to this post. Can anyone help me ID the orange and black wasp or large "ladybug"?

So cool,! I just ordered butterfly weed and I am trying to figure out where to put it.

Can you get a still, up close shot of the insects?

Wow that’s a nice looking patch! A couple of my three year old butterfly weed plants got bigger like this, but i haven’t had this much activity on it yet. Noticed a bumblebee or two using it yesterday. What region are you in?

And that looks like a milkweed leaf beetle and a golden digger wasp to me.

I started my native garden in 2021 and found it do much more difficult than expected! It had been 20+ years since I’d wrangled a garden and I was crippled with 2 bad knees and an excess 100lbs. So it’s been slow. But this year I really feel I have created HABITAT!

I have one titanium knee now and lost 90#, I can carry sacks of mulch and dirt. Digging is still hard, I can’t kneel for any length of time, and I lost my gardener helper to a sudden brain hemorrhage (at only 43 😓) but I’ve got bees, butterflies, fireflies and birds, ground hogs & rabbits, even in the city.

  4. The “ladybug” is a Milkweed leaf beetle and a total goofball. I have a bunch and I love them.
