Undeterred by rain showers, hundreds of people donned waterproofs and wellies to explore twelve private gardens across Stocksfield, raising £2,946 in support of Tynedale Hospice at Home.
The event, organised by long-time hospice volunteer Helen Taylor, was run in partnership with the Stocksfield Plants and Gardens Society and gave visitors access to some of the village’s most carefully tended green spaces.
Helen Taylor said: “I was overwhelmed by the support, especially given the weather. It just shows how much people care, not only about gardens, but also about supporting those going through incredibly difficult times. The kindness and generosity we saw were truly humbling.”
Sarah Brunskill, volunteer co-ordinator for Tynedale Hospice at Home, added: “We’re thrilled by the amazing support we received – even in the rain! To raise nearly £3,000 in one wet afternoon is a real testament to the warmth, resilience, and generosity of the Stocksfield community. We’re so grateful to everyone who opened their gardens, took part, volunteered, and made the day so special.”
Tynedale Hospice at Home provides essential, free services across the region, including hospice care in the home, bereavement support for adults and children, complementary therapies, and a volunteer-led patient transport service.
