my buddy had several patches of this in his yard. He painstakingly wore a rubber glove, then put a cotton glove over it. dunked his fingers in round up and coated the plant. It worked.

Same shit in my yard, it’s quack grass. It’s not Nutsedge so don’t waste money, only thing I’ve found that will work is pulling it or applying glyphosate directly to the leaves, someone on here posted a little tool that looks like scissors with two squeegee pieces on it to apply as that stuff always grows faster than the grass and taller. But you’re going to have to do some manual work to get rid of it.

you have 2-3 types in that one handful.

If you let it grow
Will it build up black fork?

You have multiple things in that handful. But most of it looks like orchard grass. You may have luck removing it with Tenacity, but the best approach is to use a foam brush or a lawn liberator tool to apply roundup to the specific leaves and hopefully not spill too much on the desirable stuff.

I was also thinking wild onions

That purpleish base leads me to believe that it could be a sandbur variant. They are a pain to control and will probably require manual intervention rather than pure chemical intervention.
This shit is all over my city right now. We’ve had crabgrass here and there, little bundles, but this stuff has taken over entire yards this year, including about 3/4 of mine. I just cut my lawn 2 days ago and it’s already going to need to be cut again tomorrow. It’s AWFUL. I don’t know what it is, but I’m here commiserating with you.

My back yard had a little last year and this year it’s like 1/2 my yard.

Thought that was quack grass? Boiling it works. Spectricide didn’t. My dad said Round-up but I dont wanna buy more chemical

I think that’s your grass. Just mow it

Edit: they laid sod over clay if that makes a difference on any answer. Grass is tall fescue

A few of the pieces in the middle and on the right look like yellow nutsedge. I have it in my yard and it grows much faster than my regular grass and is a slightly different color, making it very easy to spot within a few days of mowing. I’ve heard anecdotally that pulling it can actually make the problem worse, I use a selective herbicide called Sedgehammer for it, and I typically do 2 applications ~2 weeks apart.

I think that’s yellow foxtail and it’s a bear to get rid of. Use tenacity with a surfactant or apply it as a preemergent in the spring. or both since it’s a tough weed

I’m leaning Dallisgrass. Do you have picture of the ligule or of the raceme that you can share?
